Converted 4967 ape files to flac
« on: September 22, 2015, 05:37:55 pm »

I don't think they sound the same.  Do you think this is a direct sound setting?

Words can't describe how bored.  It is never good when you're talking to the cats and waiting for an answer.

But I can drive again today!  So, yeah!

Very funny, but yes, ape does sound better. Due to Big-endian vs Little-endian byte order.

Wav and Ape are both Little-endian byte order - sounds best
Flac and AIFF and ALAC - Big-endian which all don't sound as good

It's subtle like good vs not so good noise shaping dithering. FLAC, I find, harder to pick up on spatial-cues within the music, a slight hardening of the sound, little artificial I guess.
With the numerous debates over the years about this topic, you'll never read that someone prefers the sound of FLAC.

After some experimenting I found Bigger Endian.  This actually pre-inflates the files up to the proper 32 bit sized package for sending down to the device.  Disks are cheap.

I would bet my life that you could not identify that unsighted and level matched.  why?: because it is impossible.

to suggest that there is a difference is ludicrous.  the reason that the debate continues is very simple. People wish to remain ignorant and seek to bend the laws of physics to suit their motives.  IE Young Earth Creationists, ID-ers, etc
