City of Coldwater sells Voice over IP
« on: September 06, 2003, 03:50:04 pm »

This is a very interesting development:

The city of Coldwater, Mich., this week became the nation's first municipality to sell Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, telephone service to its residents.

The city is trying to create competition for Verizon Communications, the lone telephone provider in this town of about 10,000 residents, said Linden Cox, the communications manager of Coldwater's Board of Utilities.

A little competion is alwasy a good thing, in my opinion.  I would love to see my nearly $40 a month local phone service become a little less expensive.  Even having an alternative to Verizon would be great.
