Not for me. I noticed it by coincidence. For FLAC files cover art is retrieved from the Internet. It is read from the file for all other formats.

Can you describe this more fully?  I'm not aware of MC doing any kind of automated cover art lookups unless you tell it to.  FLAC cover art works on MC21.0.19 on my system quite normally.

What exactly are you experiencing?

I found out after adding a vinyl rip to my library, whilst retaining the CD rip of the same album that I already had. I had added 'LP' to the end of the album title of the vinyl rip and it showed up without cover art, even though I had added it to the files.

After renaming the album, removing 'LP' from the album title, cover art for the album suddenly appeared, but not the image I had added to the files...

I then transcoded the FLAC files into ALAC and lo and behold, the cover art that I had added to the files suddenly did appear...

I think you're experiencing something related to having two copies of the same (or similar) album names in your library.  To be sure, you would need to look at the files in question, directly with an external program and see if they see the cover art.  Then look at the same files in MC and see if the cover art is there.  I think you'll find they match.  I've experienced no issues with cover art in FLAC files with hundreds of added albums in MC.

I have 2706 albums in my library. I never noticed it before but I don't usually mix audio formats. Perhaps I did not explain myself clearly enough.

- I have a cd "Load" by Metallica in my library (ALAC)
- I ripped the LP (to FLAC files), which I added as "Load LP", so the two would not mix up in the overview
- I now have "Load" (ALAC) and "Load LP" (FLAC)
- The songs from "Load LP" did not show cover art even though I had added it. (<- could it be "load LP" could not be found online so no cover was retrieved?)
- I deleted the cd rip ("Load") and renamed the vinyl rip's album title from "Load LP" into "Load"
- Cover art is now shown for the vinyl ripped files but not the cover art that I added.
- I transcoded the FLAC files to ALAC
- The cover art that I added is now shown

I'm using 'Yate' for tagging and adding cover art (http://2manyrobots.com/yate/ - registered user).

Rovo:  I understand the process; thanks for outlining it.  The question here is, why didn't your Load LP show cover art.  I'm guessing that Yate isn't set to embed cover art inside the FLAC file.  I only use a couple of programs externally to embed cover art:  XLD and (very rarely) KID3.  I've never had an issue with MC detecting it.

You'd need to be sure that the cover art for the Load files was really inside the files.  Perhaps with KID3 or another tagger.  I suspect that the cover art was outside of the files in a "album.jpg" file or "folder.jpg" or otherwise.  That would also explain how MC suddenly associated the "Load" cover art with "Load LP" *after* you renamed the Load LP album to Load.

Here's how to tell.  Go check a few of your albums that have cover art.  Open the tagging window (Edit > Tag).  Now show all fields by clicking the upper left pulldown menu.  Go find "Image File".  If the image is embedded inside the file, it will show "inside file".  Otherwise it will show a location on disk.  That should solve our mystery I believe.

Hi Brian,

Yate can save cover art to both external files or into the audio file. On my system it is configured to write the cover art into the audio files.
I was working on another vinyl rip, which I have just finished. I proceeded using the same steps as before. However this time cover art is shown for the "SomeTitle LP" files. Must have been a freak occurrence earlier. Sorry to have wasted your time. Next time I'll do more testing before reporting something like this.
