I bought it because it has no fan and is very quiet. Its only JRiver, which is unfortunately a program that I really like, which has this issue.

I was only referring to JRiver's Media Center. Obviously, running it on a NAS, as if the NAS was an HTPC, would require that the NAS be connected to a display; reducing the need for an HTPC to run the JRiver MC software. The unfortunate aspect is that it can't be used headless to just function as a DLNA and/or Library Server.

The issue seems to be that the JRiver staff may not have made the function, features, and requirements of this offering clear enough.

Right, I was hoping to finally rid myself of the dreaded "audio streaming error" on JRemote because I was running MC on my Mac Mini that was indexing the files on the QNAP server and of course there would be issues when the MC Server on my Mac couldn't fetch the particular song on the QNAP.  I'm hoping that MC can be run outside of QNAP HD Station, otherwise this would be a big letdown.

Hello, I think I am facing the same challenge of Joefonebone.

I run a TS-251 and a TS-251+ only for music with different servers under tests (minimserver, asset upnp, etc...) and I run JRiver under a VM Windows 2012. I use JRemote as control point for JRiver.

I was excited to learn that JRiver was implemented on QNAP till i understood that it was under HD Station. My NAS are not connected to the TV through HDMI so today, in my configuration, HD Station is useless.

So the only solutions I found are :
>> to connect my NAS to HDMI in order to configure JRiver
>> find a way to connect through a VNC to HD Station in order to manage the configuration of JRiver ( I found that (http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=320&t=112420#p492163)  but not sure it works on TS-x51....
>> expect a package that is not working under HD Station in headless
>> Continue to use JRiver under VM Win 2012.

If you have any clues you are more than welcome !

A way would be to for the first time (when doing the setup process) connect the NAS to a display. After that there is no need for a display / TV to use JRiver as you can start JRiver via the QRemote app on your smartphone or tablet.

Yes you are right it is my first solution...by the way i did not find Qremote for ipad. i need to check for iphone.
