Drop outs when using Linked Zones
« on: December 04, 2015, 06:56:32 am »

When I use two zones simultaneously I have drop outs. When they occur the JRiver screen shifts to the left then snaps back as it did when I had other issues, thankfully resolved.

I am running the last version of Media Center 20, the operating system is Windows 10.

One zone is via USB to an OPPO HA-1, the other an Oppo 105 via Ethernet. (Ethernet to router, router to OPPO 105 via Ethernet.)

Both zone play flawlessly when not in two zone mode.

I have no clue how to trouble shoot.

Advice?

How are you connected to the other PC and to the Oppo?

The DEll laptop is the server and library, I run Ethernet cable from it to the router. From the router to the Oppo105  I also run Ethernet. CAT 6.

So you are pushing to both via UPnP / DLNA then? (i.e. not via USB / HDMI / SPDIF / etc.)

The Dell laptop which has the library and Media Center sends the signal via USB to an Oppo HA1.

The same Dell Laptop which has the library and Media Center also sends the signal to the OPPO 105 via Ethernet. (Ethernet to router then from router to Oppo105 also via Ethernet cable)

So the media Center is pushing to both. (correct???)

Both work fine when not linked.

MC can play audio without dropouts to several zones simultaneously.

Try playing to other devices to test.

I did understand that, but test without the network (for example).

Antivirus software is also a possibility.

I apologize, I do not know what you mean.

Play something though a different player?

Other devices? you mean play to my phone without MC? With MC?

Maybe you should describe your setup.  This is the first time you mentioned a phone.  What are you using and how is it connected/

Can you play from MC itself to two devices (anything that will output sound) at the same time?

yes, I can play to 4 devises with no trouble.
1) OPPO 105 via DNLA (hardwired through LAN line, home network)
2) a second PC with MC Center on it. (wirless)
3) OPPO Ha-1 via USB
4) my phone through nMedium app (wireless)

and the server and library is a dedicated lap top which I can obviously play through but have it configured to send to the USB as noted above, which is connected to the OPPO HA 1.

Linked zones work pretty well with devices that are direct connected to the MC computer.  So USB DACs and that kind of thing play pretty well linked without any sync issues, etc.  However, trying to play linked zones via DLNA pretty much always leads to synchronization problems, as the clocks drift making the audio go out of sync.

But you're saying you get playback interruptions; the audio stops for a very short time, but then comes back?  Which one of your devices has these interruptions?

What is the JMark score of the computer you are playing from?  Help > Benchmark > run benchmark

What types of files are you trying to play?  MP3, FLAC, etc?  High resolution audio, video ?

Audio only mode. Generally Flac.

Given all of the problems you've been reporting, I suspect there's something wrong with your computer or your installation of MC.  Your JMark score might help out also.  If it's a very low powered machine *maybe* it would explain this problem, but not your others.

I'm no windows expert, but several unusual problems on the same machine points me to something being fundamentally broken.
