Search isn't working
« on: August 27, 2003, 06:46:07 pm »

I just can't figure it out, whenever i use the search bar at the top of mc9, nothing ever comes up. For instance, i have over 200 Phish files, and when i search for "phish," a blank screen will show up.

What am i doing wrong?   :-/

Make sure you're positioned in the right place in the Media Library.  Music, in this case.

JimH,
If i search in the audio section of the media library, i get: "no search results--double click here to search entire library"

If i double click, i just get a blank screen.

Did you import the files?  Do they show up in Media Library under Audio?  Can you play them from MC?

"Phish" it works for me

Maybe spelling or add a field. some fields MC9 will not search in without putting that field in the search parm (like lyrics, and i think notes and bios)

The only problem I see with search is.

1. It does not remember what you typed in when you click from playing now to media files, and then you need to spend another few mins to type in the search parm when you switch back.

2. The search bar is so small it is like looking thru the rear view mirror of JimH's new truck to see if the cops are pulling you over for endangering the public.

JimH,
The files are imported and they show up in the Media Library from MC. I can play them as well. I know search used to work on MC 8, and neither my OS nor my songs have changed in any way.

King,
Im usually not searching for lyrics, notes, bios etc.
I dont know, this may have to do with my crazy OS, its very unpredictable you know.

Hit Ctrl+F in MC then type slowly.  Does it do something after each letter?  The list should keep shrinking.

Let us know.

Matt,
If i hit Ctrl+F, the screen blinks, but nothing happens. If i use the search bar at the top and type one letter at a time, the whole lists dissapears after the first letter.

Make a library backup.

Then clear the library (and fields) and import a few tracks again.

See if search works then.

If it does, please send the library backup to (matt @ jriver.com)

Thanks!

Matt,

I deleted all the songs after making a backup of them and imported one cd. I tried searching for that one cd and still got nothing.

One thing,  when i import media, i usually do it through File > open media file> right click the CD i want > hover over "media center" and in that subfolder, hit import.

When i imported this cd after deleting my library, i used File>Library>import library. After browsing, highlighting a cd and clicking 'OK', i got a prompt saying: "You are attempting to import from a directory which Media Jukebox normally excludes. Are you sure you want to import from ...."

Dont know if thats a factor.

To import a file, do Tools/Import.  It should then show up in the library.

Try a file that isn't on a CD.  It could be a MC+CD specific problem.

Could you send two screenshots to matt @ jriver.com (no spaces)

1) Media Library with some files showing in details mode
2) The same, but with a search string that _should_ work but isn't?

Also, are you using an English / US version of XP?

Thanks for helping!
