Subtitles: last character truncated
« on: December 10, 2015, 04:25:18 pm »

I've been having this problem in MC 19, and it's still there in MC 21.0.26 (upgraded today). Sometimes, the last character of a subtitle is not displayed. Not sure what triggers this. I've prepared a sample (small blank video + .srt file) - the last character ("3") is never displayed in Display View, in Standard View it's ok. Also attached some of my Options.

Sounds weird, I'll have a look tomorrow.

I'm seeing this too (though I haven't noticed it before recently). It is on a specific line and position of the text too, I believe.

If there are three lines of text displayed, the last character of the second row will often be truncated.

Still a problem with 21.0.37 unfortunately. Always occurs quite frequently on the usual two-line .srt subtitles too, not just with three-lines of text. Also note that I have my Windows locale setting set to Greek (Greece), not sure if this has something to do with the issue.

I always see the last letter "3" in my display view.  I tried Red October Standard and HQ.

Strange.

Ok I think I located this. As shown in my screenshot, I use the Segoe UI Light font for its... lightness. I switched to Trebouchet MS (also tried another one) and the problem goes away. Problem comes back with Segoe (also Segoe Regular).

I'd appreciate any suggestions for similar light fonts.  :)

Gives us a hint to look at as well, thanks.

I found a solution, but I'm really not sure about it.  So I'm asking Hendrik for some help.

Thanks. I tried several fonts and only Segoe was affected.

Well, looks it does happen with other fonts too, just not on my uploaded example here. Weird.

I've got a fix pending for the next build.

It's a little gross, but we just add one to the text extent that we were using before and that fixes it at least for me.  The extra spacing is only added in the subtitle font part so it shouldn't cause wider issues.

Thanks Matt, I'll test it when available and report back if I see any problems.

Thanks.

We haven't even cut a build with the change yet, so it might be a week or so before it hits Latest.

I'll check it too, as I'm seeing it regularly (and I've been watching a series with subs on lately because they mix the dialogue too low for late nights with 4-year-olds sleeping upstairs).
