Thanks, but no thanks
« on: December 12, 2015, 03:33:16 pm »

... regarding the failure of MC to manage it's own libraries (the whole reason I used it in the first place) and the spiralling costs of updating an increasingly inferior product ...

Having used the product for many years, it has not only outlived it's usefulness, it has caused me no end of headaches and loss of many many hours re-creating data (like playlists) created in previous versions, that (supposedly) should have been handled by newer versions, but weren't (and still aren't).

All the time this was happening, I lost the functionality I wanted, whilst gaining garbage that was irrelevant to me and losing the way I habitually view my files - nice job!

So, after 10 years or so it's arrivederce - your product no longer supports itself, but doesn't do what I bought it for and, along the way, you have forced me to pay for updates I didn't want that removed the features I liked - way to go!

Ever head of customer service?

that's one of the dumbest things I've seen written.  No one (NO ONE) forced you to upgrade anything, ever.  You chose to spend your money to upgrade the product; your decision, no one else's.

In addition, I highly doubt you've actually lost functionality, but even if you actually had, just install the version you purchased which does what you want it do do, the way you want to do it.  Your old licenses are still valid for the old products, so just install whichever version you were happy with and leave it alone.

...or....

start a thread asking politely for help to do whatever you're currently struggling with and I'm sure someone will help you get what you're looking for.

insulting people with vague complaints isn't a good way to get positive results.

Contrary to popular belief, the customer is NOT always right.

Uhhh, like what? The only major "feature" I'm aware of that was removed from MC in the last couple major versions was Netflix, but that was Netflix's fault for pulling their public API.

My style is to engage and be part of the solution. It's a mindset thing. A bit like the one about is the glass half empty or half full? Maybe a different point of view might help.

MC's functionality of backing up its library files every 3 or so days by default where user settings are stored has prevented a lot of grief, for me personally. It's not clear what library failures you're talking about. From my observation over time, this sort of problem would rate highly on the response charts. If your problem was real and you gave specific, objective detail then I'd expect the you would have received solid support. As was mentioned above, vague generalities aren't helpful.

Back up your library from the most recent version that has your playlists.  Restore the backup in the current version.  MC makes automatic backups.

Regarding the "spiral cost of updates", this describes JRiver's business model.

I've been on the receiving side of this sort of comment a few times.  As the person "serving", I am happy to so.  I actually enjoy it.  But I believe the "servant" deserves respect, even in difficult circumstances.

Please consider starting a new thread about the problem you have.
