I am still new to MC and I just tried to create a smartlist that made use of a user-defined field that I created with the library manager. To my astonishment and disappointment, I can't find any of the user-defined fields in the list of fields from which I can create rules!! Two questions:

(1) Why aren't they there?? (This would be a very powerful user tool!)
(2) What can I do to use these fields in a smartplaylist rule? (E.g., is there a way to work the "custom" rule to find a user-defined field that is blank?)

Make sure the names match exactly, including case

The answer is, user defined fields ARE usable in SmartLists, Views, etc. I'm not sure why you don't see yours, but they should be available.

If you don't see them after verifying spelling and case, please post a screen shot so we can see what you are doing.

Did you limit the fields usage using the Audio, Image, Video etc. flags when you set it up?

Ah ha.

I'd closed and relaunch MC a couple times and did not see the user-defined fields in the smart playlist fields. TTTHHHEEENNNN it dawned on my that the MC server was running, so I shut that down, too - and voila! - the user-defined fields showed up!
