Anyone also having web streaming problems?
« on: July 29, 2003, 10:36:24 am »

Here's the issue:

  • MP3 Streaming:  Some (but not all) MP3 sites do not stream properly.  They sound distorted like a badly encoded MP3.
  • WMA Streaming:  Some (but not all) WMA sites have tiny, almost unnoticable skips.

    Here's the background:

  • This has been going on since the 9.0 betas.
  • This is occurring on two Windows XP machines, one desktop, one laptop.
  • Both machines have been re-installed from scratch.
  • Both machines have different sound cards.
  • Both machines are running the latest sound card drivers.
  • Both machines play these streams properly with other software (Winamp).
  • An MP3 stream broken in MC9 plays just fine via iTunes.
  • This happens at different bitrates.
  • This happens regardless of DSP/sound card settings.

Here's the primary site in question:

    http://www.kexp.org/listen/kexp-mp3-96k.pls

Is anyone else having problems with this or with any other MP3/WMA streams?

J River seems to think it's not a bug but I've tried everything I can to solve it outside of MC to no avail.  If it's not a bug, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?

    Thanks!

Yes, I have this problem while listening to shoutcast streams. I have to revert to WinAmp to play them.

I hav problems with some streams crashing MC, usually when MC cannot find the 'signal'.

I tried the stream you posted the link to and it sounds 'OK', but at 96kbs it is hard for me to tell as I usually listen to a 128kbs stream.

May I suggest you try http://www.radioparadise.com and see if you get a clean sound?  This may help zero in on the problem.  They have streams in many bandwidths and several formats you can try.

I tried RadioParadise and got good signal.  This afternoon, though, I tried digitallyimported.com and was able to stream the Deep House channel just fine but the Chill Out channel does the same thing as the kexp.org station.

Now I'm totally confused as to what it could be.

A friend of mine whom I just turned on to MC tried the streams on her machine at home and has run into the same problem as I have.  Digitally Imported's Deep House works, their Chill Out doesn't, thier Modern Jazz works, but KEXP.ORG doesn't.

Are you using ASIO with your sound card?

I've tried with and without using two separate cards (SB Audigy and M-Audio Revo 7.1).
