« on: August 22, 2003, 12:17:45 pm »

Please read carefully before downloading.

This is BETA software.  If you expect things to work, please download the latest 9.0 build from this thread:

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=di splay;num=1054751628

If you're patient and willing to help find the bugs, you can download 9.1 here:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91238.exe    (backup your library before installing)

NOTE:  Please report only known problems in this thread.   If you want to discuss changes in the UI, please use another thread.

History:
1. Changed: Updated splash screen for version 9.1.
2. Changed: TV audio compression can now be configured (in custom recording profiles).
3. Changed: Changed the way TV scans for channels. More aggresively accepts potentially available channels.
4. Fixed: Action Window less blinky when switching pages.
5. Changed: Updated Action Window layout / navigation model.
6. Changed: Back and the location label both show the action window if it's in "hidden" mode.
7. NEW: Back command (mouse, keyboard, backspace, etc.) works inside Action Window.
8. Changed: Send To menu selection no longer tied to action window selection. (so no "auto" switching)
9. Fixed: Editing smartlists wouldn't always work properly when using limit modifiers.
10. Changed: Handheld views allow columns to be shown that aren't supported by the device. (but are supported by queued files)
11. Fixed: Detailed Info pane wasn't displaying user entered display names for database fields.
12. NEW: Media Center's automation can now be accessed from outside of MC's process.

BUG - Multi select does not work properly in the track list when selecting more than fits on the current page.  Multi select does work in the panes.

It just selects files from the start up to what fits on a single page.

I have loaded 91226 and multi-select works, but not with this build or the prior one, I don't know about others.  I'd suspect my computer, but 91226 works fine.

Other users have not duplicated this problem.   It does not appear to be skin related.

Too weird.... I was accessing MC from my office using GoToMyPc and this non-bug appeared, and 91226 worked.

Now that I am home, the problem goes away....  Can't explain why GoToMyPc showed an interface weirdness or why 91226 didn't show it, but it works from home now.

Wow, great work over the past week! Half my bugs were wiped out. This thing is really shaping up nicely! ;D

DUPLICATABLE ISSUES:

  • In 'hairstyle' mode, when selecting a TV channel it plays channel 'n/a'. Trying to change channels in the lower menu bar switches between the last channel in my tuner list and channel 'n/a', regardless of which channel I had selected. I have to right-click the display and manually select a channel there to reset the tuner. After this, everything functions normally until I try again from hairstyle. This doesn't happen when starting TV in Mega-Me.

  • I'll stop posting the crossfading in ASIO issue, for I stopped using ASIO mode and others are keeping track of it. ;)

  • When a music CD is inserted with Audio CD action set to 'play' (while MC is running) by either default action or prompt, it will instead play whatever is selected currently in panes view, replacing the current playlist. If Rip is selected manually, functioning occurs as expected.

  • When inserting an Audio CD with Media Center NOT running and selecting the option to 'Play CD using Media Center' in the resulting popup dialog (WinXP), if MC is set 'rip' by deafult in options it will autorip CD instead of playing CD, regardless of setting to ask first. If 'Play' or 'Nothing' are selected it will play the CD normally; however, 'ask first' setting is still ignored.

  • Some of my VBR mp3's are being shown as 32kbps bitrate and about 7 times the length in time. Not sure if this was from bad encoding (unknown encoder) or MC's decoding. Files play fine, but cause false alarms with CD times when writing CDs, requiring manual length calculation.

OPTIMIZATIONS:

  • In the filelist pane, the last field on the right (filename by default) always runs off the right side of the pane. Trying to expand the width of the field with the mouse to read the entire field is a pain, for it only widens a few pixels at a time.

  • When selecting a TV channel, MC adds all channels to the 'Playing Now' list. If one then opens any media file out of Windows Explorer, it appends the file to the end of the TV channels in playing now, after which it will bounce back up to the top and try playing TV channels. Any way to change this behavior? Perhaps clear the play list when TV is stopped?

  • Action Window navigation: AW concept is coming along VERY nicely; however, recent changes made this difficult to figure out; is there an invisible button there? I like easter eggs, but new users would be completely lost with invisible buttons. ;)

Wow really impressive progress!

1) If I change the nuber of files from 100 to 30 in Auto Playlist /Recently Imported 100 only 11 files are actually displayed.

2) What happened to the "Home" button in the action window? Can't see it anymore, in Pixos, or any other skin, but clicking on the location where it should be still takes you to the homepage.

3)When using ASIO for streaming web content, switching stations causes stuttering and occasionally crashes.

4) MC downloads *.rm files instead of streaming them
This is an old bug.

5) I also liked selective text for tool bar buttons.

6)Ease of Use Suggestion: Pictures of buttons should be in menues to the lefte of the corresponding action.

[*] Open - Date Opened: 2003/06/27  Priority: High
HTTP Streaming Not Working For Many Stations
Most MP3-based radio stations will not stream properly and sound corrupted.  An example of a bad stream: http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/MPL/4509.mpl.  This stream will play in Winamp.  A WMA stream from the station works fine.

[*] New - Date Opened: 2003/08/22  Priority: Medium
Opening Not Accurate
Leaving MC in a folder such as (I:) causes it to reset to My Computer level when restarted.  This is probably related to the recently resolved Favorites issue.

[*] New - Date Opened: 2003/08/22  Priority: Low
Deletion Confirmation
When deleting files via My Computer that aren't imported, MC shouldn't ask whether to remove from library or not.

[*] Open - Date Opened: 2003/08/21  Priority: Low
Action Window Position
The Action Window should remain flush to the bottom at all times.  When there isn't enough displayed in the tree, there is a bit of white space beneath the Action Window.

[*] Open - Date Opened: 2003/08/21  Priority: Low
Resizing/Refocus Issue
Click on a window that partially covers MC then click any of MC's visible borders while the cursor is showing the resize tool and MC will resize slightly smaller even though you only clicked  Also, you do not have the option to resize MC's window by grabbing directly beneath the button bar.

[*] Open - Date Opened: 2003/07/31  Priority: Low
No "to All" Buttons
Was moving some files that overwrote some other files and MC asks for confirmation on each.  There needs to be "Yes to All" and "No to All" buttons.

[*] Open - Date Opened: 2003/07/21  Priority: Low
Keyboard Shortcuts Unavailable in Web Media
You cannot use keyboard shortcuts such as CTRL-V.  You cannot tab between fields.

[*] Open - Date Opened: 2003/07/09  Priority: Low
ASIO fades too early
Using ASIO mode with fast fades and playing a single track, the track will actually fade out and end a few seconds early.

Not sure if this is by design but the Action Window Home icon is gone but you can still click there and it returns you to Home with no option to go back.

Repeating bugs from 237:

1. When changing fonts, the AW and list defaults to Microsoft Sans Serif 12pt. unless user resets the window or starts MC again. Balloons are also affected, often making it difficult to read because it's offscreen.

2. When using "Library Tools>Clean Files, if there is no year in the Date (Year) field, it defaults by populating the field with 1899. Under Optipns>Tree View, it looks like the radio button is set to a calculated date if there is no info there.

3. COSMETIC: Tools>Library Manag'e'ment is misspelled.

On this version only I can't get the album image back.

It was there when I first loaded MC.  I then looked at some other new features of the Action window.  Afterwords I can find no command to get view album images anymore. >:( >:( >:(

Action Window

So the 6th icon in the home window is the most recently used function.  I think you can just about get away with that as all the other icons remain static.

Matt - You are the man!  IMO the AW window is sorted now - job done for 9.1 except for work on the icons i.e.

* we can't see the new back button (but if we could I'm sure it would look great!)
* high res sexy looking icons required
* after clicking X to close the button to open should not be X too.

No more auto switching - no moving the icons around and easy navigation.  Nice one - thanks

1.   Bug... When converting file, the old file is removed from the Library... Can this be fixed to have both files in the Library??

2.   Properties used to be seperated by type if you are looking at all properties. Now it's one long list.... Can we have an option to have the properties grouped?

AW is getting close....

In Playing Now it would really be helpful is the highlighted bar moved with the currently selected track, else what is the highlighted bar for?

The tooltips for Properties is not desired when the window is undocked.

I like no auto-change LOTS.  I see there are others that want it back, please don't.... Unless some pinning method is implemented.

'Action Window / File Properties / Statistics'...and some other ones.. are not resizing properly when the tree view is extended downward (hides displays).

'My Computer' is now usable with the removal of the horizonal slider...especially with networked drives.

MRU lists are showing items that don't need to be shown:
Clear Playing Now...when it's already cleared.
Import into Library...when it's already imported.

Using TREEPATH with mjexeman is not shuffling the tracks when shuffle is on. This worked in 226.

When using shuffle (from 226;treepath), it did not start at #1. This isn't good when playing a playlist and it starts at the second song from the end.

Previously reported:

Bug: MC is not remembering position in PN when using the back button.
To duplicate: Select a track other than the currently playing track in PN. Switch to Media Library and select a track, then click on the back button. The selected track has changed to the currently playing one.
Note: Works the other way though.

Bug: Selecting & Moving a track in PN changes selected song.
To duplicate: Select a track in PN and drag to another location in PN.  The selected file changes to the currently playing file. Note: This now wotks correctly in the action window

Bug: Dragging tracks from media library to PN in action window changes highlighted track in AW.
To duplicate: Open PN in action window and highlight a track. Now drag a track from media library and drop it under the highlighted track. The highlight jumps to the  track playing instead of remaining on the originally highlighted track.

Bug: If playing video files with MC behind another open application, the foreground application loses focus when MC changes tracks.
To duplicate: Start MC and load a couple of video files (I have mpg's) into PN. Start MC playing then open another application eg Notepad. Type something in notepad and then wait till MC changes to next track.Notepad has now lost the focus and you cannot continue typing until you click on notepad to regain the focus. This is Very annoying if typing while the change of tracks takes place.
Note: Does not apply to track changes if using only audio (mp3) files but mp3's followed by video (mpg) files show the above symptom.

Bug: Cannot prefix the first item in the player status area with a minus sign.
To duplicate: Go to customize display (right click) & try setting Play Mode Status to "-[Remaining Time] / [Total Time]" (without the quotes).  The "-" (minus sign) does not display when you play a track. Now try setting it to "[Total Time] / -[Remaining Time]" (without the quotes). It now displays correctly.
Note: You can use other symbols eg "+" just not the "-".

fixed b.237  Bug: Selected track changes if moving tracks in PN in the new action window.
To duplicate:  Display PN in action window. Select a track & drag it to a new location. The selected track changes to the track that is playing, instead of remaining on the originally selected track.

fixed b.237  bug:  If you have "Playing Now" in both content pane & action window, & move a song to a new position in content pane, the action window does not update to reflect this change.

fixed b.237  bug: Horizontal & vertical scroll bars do not display correctly in the add image from file selection window.  Happens with all skins.

Three things:

1. Bring up a  list of media that is larger than the screen can hold. Select an item then scroll down a bit. Press and hold shift or ctrl as if you were going to select multiple items. The list then snaps back to the original item, defeating the purpose of shift or ctrl clicking.

2. If I delete an album by right clicking on an album in a pane and selecting delete, MC deletes the files but the listing stays untill the pane is refreshed. The pane should refresh after a delete operation.

3. I haven't been keeping up to date lately, and have just been introduced to the Action Window. Pretty sweet, but what's up with the properties window now? It would be nice to have the properties categorised as they were before into General, Extended, etc.. Yes, I am aware of the right clicking to select which category to view, but in my opinion this is just another level of complexity that doesn't need to be there. AW would be sweet if properties view acted as it did before.

Cheers,

Scott.

Selecting multiple items in the panes using shift does not work - only tracks matching the first item selected are shown.  Use control and it's OK but that's tedious if you want to select several contigeous items.

When starting MC I get an error about starting the RC plugin for my IRMAN and I have to restart it via plugin manager each time.

I solved this by disabling the COM port in device manager, rebooting and enabling it again.  I can't think of any reason for it to happen in the first place though.  If no one else reports it I'll assume it's just my system.

UPDATE - Problem has returned.  I believe this a bug that's been introduced in this build.  If I go straight into plug in manager after starting MC I am able to start the IRMAN plug in OK.

Do I need to delete and reinstall the plug in or does this happen automatically with each new build?

I just downloaded 9.1.238 and I'm seeing what I think is a bug with the track time display at the top of the window. I've been having this problem since 9.1.212 although I didn't see it with an older build (sorry, I no longer have the number).

What I'm seeing is with 5 seconds to go, the cursor will jump to the next track, even though the current one is still playing. The timer will count down for 5 seconds, and when it reaches zero starts counting up again.

I know this is a minor problem, but I've been trying to master continuous mix cds using MC9 for playback, and it can be quite annoying when the cursor jumps around prematurely just as you're getting to the interesting transition between tracks.

Thanks for investigating this,

Warren

P.S. Here's an example of what I see the display showing, for successive seconds:

track 1: 3:13 / 3:20
track 1: 3:14 / 3:20
track 1: 3:15 / 3:20
track 2: 0:05 / 4:35 (although track 1 is still playing, cursor jumps to the beginning and playlist selection changes)
track 2: 0:04 / 4:35
track 2: 0:03 / 4:35
track 2: 0:02 / 4:35
track 2: 0:01 / 4:35
track 2: 0:00 / 4:35
track 2: 0:00 / 4:35 (track 2 stars playing)
track 2: 0:01 / 4:35

In the "Advanced ripping options" there is an option to "Overwrite existing files that have the same name."  This doesn't seem to work.  If I re-rip a part of a CD that's already been ripped, it simply names the new files with a "(1)" on the end.  This is what should happen if the "overwrite" box is NOT checked, but I get the same behavior regardless of the status of this option.  In other words, new rips never overwrite existing files.

This has been a problem since 9.0.180.

Yes - that the problem I was having yeterday, and then once it's snapped back, you can then scroll down and then press shift/ctrl and it works.

This isn't a fault Warren.  This happens as MC buffers the next track for use with cross fade.

Request:

Some way to get a full listing of all the fields currently in MC from the SDK for use with plugins so we can get the field names.

I installed mc9.1.238 on my computer yesterday.  I just installed the new version over the old.  I saw extremely slow response time from the program.  Let me add that I'm running on a PC p4 1.8, 512m ram.  I had previously backed up the library, I uninstalled the program rebooted and reinstalled the new version and restored the old library.  The response time is better now, but still very slow compared to 9.0.

Any Ideas?

I'm going to try and uninstall it again and see what happens.

OK I finally fixed it!  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, didn't work.  As a last resort before unstalling and going back to an earlier version of mc9.  What I did is clear the library and did a search from new.  Now it works great!  Speed has improved to the point of being normal for mc9!

BUG:

When MC is closed - it is still leaving the icon in the system tray (I presume this is an MC problem not a windows one as no other program seems to have this problem).

As such - I will often have 2-3 or maybe more icons in the sytem tray which only disappear when I hover over them with the mouse.

Also - not a bug but more just a bit annoying - For all programs - right clicking on the task bar and then pressing 'C' triggers the 'Close' which is the standard for windows to close programs. MC has the word 'Exit' instead of close and so right clicking on it and pressing 'C' does nothing - could this be changed to 'Close' with 'C' set to then close it?

This isn't a fault Warren.  This happens as MC buffers the next track for use with cross fade.

I can appreciate that buffering is necessary to perform cross-fading, but that's no reason for the track display to reflect what the internal buffering mechanism is doing. The display should continue to show where you're at logically within the track, even though the internal "read head" is well ahead of what's actually playing.

Also, I have cross-fading disabled (although I do have "gapless" set).

In the case where cross-fading is enabled, I suggest jumping to the next track when the cross-fade begins, but the time counter should just start from zero at that point (not count down for 5 seconds).

Toss my hat in with the "implement auto-jumping and a pushpin for the Action Window" camp.  I also like Nila's rendition and it's placement of the back/home/next buttons

I can't wait to see some high-res, "Pretty" icons for the Action Window.  It'd be even better if they were skinnable.

An idea:  perhaps place a little button on the Action Window that'd toggle a "shift" from being the Action Window to being a display window for vis's and video playback?  For when you want to browse and not have a floating Display Window.

May I make a small request?  For us 28.8 folks who are still running .218?  Or for the folks who can't/won't switch from 9.0?  Could you post a screenshot in each new build's thread?  It'd be much appreciated!

Thanks guys... great work last week!

12. NEW: Media Center's automation can now be accessed from outside of MC's process.

Wow!  You all snuck that in. I've been wanting this for a year!  I just checked it out, and it does work.  Through much experimentation, I discovered the automation server name is "MediaJukebox Application" (yes, with a space in it!).

However, it is slow - My JScript page only iterates lists about 80 per second, compared to 160 per second when using the MCIO plugin!!

Still, thanks - MC needed this.

I agree with Nila's suggestions re Action Window.  Want Forward, Back, and Home buttons, all three, please.

Thanks!

Problems with ejecting the iPod are persisting.  These range from "cannot eject hardware at this time" messages, to actual warning messages after ejecting saying it wasn't done correctly -- i.e. you eject, the iPod goes back to the normal screen, you unplug it, and the message "the device was not unplugged properly" comes up.

These issues all suddenely started happening with one of the recent updates.

If I use "[Date Imported]=<=40320" (without quotes) then enter tagging mode, the only tagging options available are the the ones in the current list, not the entire library. Changing the time limit makes no difference.

I am also getting the debris in the system tray that has already been mentioned by Nila.

I am once again (still?) gettin an error message upon closing MC most of the time.  I have yet to note a commonality in these occurances which I can tie to this behavior.

Confirmed.

Does anyone else think MC is slowing down?  A little longer for screen updates, more audio glitches?  I plan on restoring a windows backup image from early August to rule out Windows and use an older version of MC for a few days to see if it seems faster.

Users are losing their "Favorites" list.

This isn't a bug, but certainly an inconvenience.  Here's how I got my favorites back after installing 238.

Note that this procedure worked for me, but I'm not sure if something in the way favorites are stored changed between betas, and thus necessitated the obscuring of old favorites.  That could very well be the case, because clearly they were obscured intentionally.  If you encounter any MC weirdness or instability after performing this procedure, undo the steps you carried out before blaming MC.

1) Close MC.

2) Open Regedit (Start > Run > regedit > OK).

3) Navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox

4) Find a value named "Tree Favorites", and double click it.

5) At the beginning of the string data for the "Tree Favorites" value, change "Favorites (v3)" to "Favorites (v4)".

6) Launch MC.  Your old favorites should be listed.

Some of your favorites may not work after doing this!  But they will be listed, so at least you won't have to go about remembering what you had, and how you had it all arranged.

I read Marko's post and then checked my import dates for recently imported files . . . the ones with valid date info came up OK, the ones with unknown dates
all say 1899
this sounds familiar

In the Media Library, the F2 key doesn't switch to edit mode.

"Edit Selected Item F2" in the short-cut menu does work though.

Also, while in edit mode, CTRL-A should select the full text.  It doesn't.

1. Bring up an album or whatever by selecting an item in one of your panes. Enter tagging mode, then exit. The selected item in the pane changes to '<all>' but the file list below stays the same.

2. AW: Press the 'X' button in the top right to hide the AW. Shouldn't it change to something other than an 'X' once it's 'hidden'?

Yeah, I know they're trivial, but hey.

Scott.

Playing TV only plays from one speaker and not both.

Recording records in stereo (2 speakers)

Did you get this behavior only in this build? Did you check "Stereo" under "Audio Mode"? What device do you have?

This is happening for the last few builds (maybe 5)

No matter what I choose for Mono or Stereo.

I'm using a WINTV Hauppage card with the normal WDM drivers

MC builds 9.1.231.0 to 9.1.237.0 use TV control 3.2.202.0, and MC build 9.1.238.0 uses TV control 3.2.205.0. In both of the versions of TV control there have been not any changes in regular playing. All changes in these builds are in recording. So maybe there is some settings that get messed up. Please try Reset.

I will do some testing too when I get a chance.

How about turing "Enable Audio Mode Selection" off? Would that make any difference?

Metamorphis : This isn't honoring the "Background" Subcolor item for Menus. All mini-me menus are defaulting to white (I think it's white) no matter what color is specified in the skin.

bennyd,
Can you start a new thread on the TV problem?  It may not be a bug.

Thanks,
