Author Topic: Why does JRiver not support Q above 1 for high-shelf and low-shelf filters?  (Read 2327 times)

Hello,
Topic says it all. Coming from miniDSP I've tweaked my crossovers using high-shelf and low shelf filters with Q>1 but in JRiver I'm getting this message.



any particular reason why and will this be changed anytime soon?

I believe that Hendrik answered that question not so long ago, but I can't find it quickly.

  Using the HTPC as a MC Server & a Workstation as a MC Client plus some DLNA clients.
  Running JRiver for Android, JRemote2, Gizmo, & MO 4Media on a Sony Xperia XZ Premium Android 9.
  Playing video out to a Sony 65" TV connected via HDMI, playing digital audio out via motherboard sound card, PCIe TV tuner

Note that jriver means S when it says Q


Thank you very much. I used that equation and given a gain of 3dB we're left with approx 0.07<Q<0.707 then...

With miniDSP one can set Q>1.

I derived these values of Q using the formula in the post you linked.

 0.10     0.222
 0.20     0.314
 0.30     0.385
 0.40     0.445
 0.50     0.498
 0.60     0.546
 0.70     0.590
 0.80     0.632
 0.90     0.670
 1.00     0.707

Not very flexible imo. They should def. look into this.

Been reading about this issue, and it seems like it has been present for some time. Stacking filters, measuring the output to approximate the target filter etc is not exactly user friendly and this should be looked at asap imo. It can't possibly be that complex to fix, it probably comes down to a few lines of code.
