Thanks for this product.

DB Poweramp integration and MQA support.

Most of the announced features are for Mac/Linux to catch up, not Windows innovation (which is what got us here to begin with).

The core Windows users and long time supporters need a compelling reason to not skip this release.

IMO, I wouldn't hold my breath on either one.

I have used JRiver as my main music player since MC19.  With the MC22 coming, features that I wish to have, if plausible, are :
  - be able to apply DSP (especially parametric equalizer) to PCM materials before converted to DSD
  - be able to apply convolution or parametric equalizer to DSD material ( I know it's commonly known that DSD can't be edited but HQPlayer has managed to convolute the DSD.  I don't know how they do it but I would be very glad if JRiver has this feature)

JRiver can already do both of these things.
The second requires an intermediate multi-bit processing stage, it cannot be done in pure 1-bit DSD.

For video files, it would be great to have the "Language" tag with the languages of the various audio tracks available (such as Eng, Fra, Esp, Deu...) from DVDs, .mkv, .m2ts...etc.

It then will be possible to build filters using that tag, and would make it easier to choose movies according to the audio languages available (some friends of mine cannot watch movies in English).

I guess JRiver has already much of what is needed to achieve this because it will always select the right audio channel for playback, according to the preferences set in Options>Video>Subtitles & Languages>Default Audio Language

The icing on the cake would be to have the same for subtitles... (but would first require to create a dedicated tag)

Many thanks in advance guys !

I would like to see this too.
It's not something I had even thought to request because I just assumed that JRiver wouldn't support these types of audio file.

Hello,

the ability to search among the "Playlists' names". (It would be very nice to discart the playlists that don't much and leave only the searched ones behind)

thank you :)

any new features for Windows version?

I have the same question.

It's time for JRiver to modernize the UI of the program and bring it into the touch screen world of Windows 10.
The current user interface is getting pretty long in the tooth.  :)

I would love the actors to be correct by episode in TV shows. I guess it grabs the information from thetvdb but it sets the actors to the same value for all the show and not by episode.

I would like a better default skin with flat design, and a better skinning system.

The Noire skin is quite out of fashion compared to Windows 10 Modern style and Yosemite flat style, which make MC looks not cool enough in OS(other built-in skins are even worse).

"Not cool enough"  lol.  Really?

Try Modern Cards:

http://dirhael.deviantart.com/art/Modern-Cards-Updated-2014-09-19-New-styles-397411922

Or Modern Cards Dark Edition, you like a darker skin:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=83217.0

Personally, I find this "flat look" of Win10 and the newest OS X to be rather ugly.  It's a design phase that will pass, just like all the rest.  In the mean time, Modern Cards is a pretty close to that look.

I do agree that Noire and the other skins look a bit out of place on Windows 8.x and Windows 10, along with Mac and Linux. Noire looks best on Windows Vista and Windows 7, IMO.

I do hope and request a new, "modern" skin is created (or you guys can always buy/obtain the rights to the Modern Cards skin, I guess) with flat buttons and simple style to better integrate on modern OSes.

2 items I would like to see changed

1 : The Seq ( I believe this means track sequence) is an annoyance it constantly puts my tracks in the wrong order

and if I uncheck it,the next time it is back and I have to uncheck again and click the track # to reorder the tracks

I would like the option to uncheck this / and it stays unchecked, that is how it should be

If I uncheck other options / they stay unchecked.

2 : Also if I change the Theater View background images from the default Van Gogh images

to a custom image/images,when I have to say restore from my library backup

my custom images are lost and I have to set it up again.

I would like the custom images to be saved and be able to be restored/if I change the background of the

theater view I want that to be permanent, obviously this will not happen when upgrading to a new version

Thank you

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  You should start a new thread on that so we can get it sorted out for you.  Include info on where this happens:  Inside Playing Now, playlists, or where ever you see this happening.

With skinning, I would prefer to see a renewed focus on DPI scaling before any work is done on updated/new skin designs.
There are lots of elements which don't scale up or down correctly, so someone would have to create a separate skin for each scale if they wanted their work to be displayed correctly.

An artist is not going to dedicate the time to creating a high dpi skin for any program unless the developers are committed to having their engine be pixel-perfect.

I believe that work on this is essential if you're wanting to further break into the Mac market. Practically all hardware that Apple sells now ships with a retina display, and many people using Macs are very critical about the appearance of the apps that they use, since Apple caters to artists/designers.

1 : The Seq ( I believe this means track sequence) is an annoyance it constantly puts my tracks in the wrong order
Seq is the order (sequence) that items are stored in the playlist.
Sorting a playlist by clicking a column header is a temporary change to the track listing which does not alter the sequence.
What might be useful is an option to "set sequence by current list order" which I actually thought already existed, but I can't seem to find it.

Set the ordering via sorting.  Then right click on the zone name in Playing Now and select "update order".

EDIT:  I see you were talking about playlists and not about Playing Now.  It's pretty much the same thing.  Select your ordering, then right click the list and do Update Order.  Or press the big button at the top that says Update Order.  If you can't see the button, click the triple down arrow near the right edge of the header to display the buttons and description.

Three requests:
1. Channel Mapping, exactly as in Foobar 2000 - to help when piping stereo through Asio while passing low frequencies to a subwoofer. Works perfectly in Foobar.
2. Continuous playing of all songs by an artist, not just the current album. If JRiver can list all the songs in album/date order, we should be able to press play and have it work through the lot without having to create a playlist.
3. Create a recorded TV button to sit below Television, much like Artists and Albums sits below Audio.

Audio | Artist --> Hover over The Bad Plus and click Play. 95 tracks added to "Playing Now". Is this what you're looking for?

One feature I'd like to see implemented is an advancement in active crossover settings.

We have butterworth crossovers now, but no native Linkwitz Riley options.
Also, by utilizing the native jriver convolving engine in the background possibly, the possiblity to create FIR crossovers natively in DSP studio would be amazing!

If I were to really be greedy, a keystoke controllable crossover frequncy slider in DSP studio would do wonders for finding that perfect sounding crossover point!

Please give it some thought! Thanks!

Two notes: there is a native LR filter, but it's only a highpass with a fixed slope (I think there may be plans to add the lowpass and other slopes eventually).  In the meanwhile, it's trivial to work around as stacking two butterworths creates an LR filter (i.e. two identical 12dB butterworths makes one 4th order LR).

Thanks! That's exactly what I'm doing, so I have four parametric eq entries per crossover point. This works but again, makes it more difficult to do A/B testing of different crossover frequencies. I can resorting to preset zones for A/B testing but even then, it's troublesome to setup. Again, I think the keystroke controllable crossover frequency point solution would be perfect for this..

You should be able to do anything you'd like in terms of copying channels, moving them, filtering (high pass, low pass), etc, using the DSP Studio > Parametric EQ.  Try the "Mix Channels" mode and the lowpass module.

for linux version, pls:
1. cd ripping - I currently rip on my windows laptop running MC21 to the same watched folder used by my linux box running mc21, so not a deal breaker for me.
2. serving of "assets" (xref with https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=92389.0) - linux version doesn't currently offer this, but I have a few pdfs saved ready for the day when it is. (so I can scan and save a cd booklet for example and then view it in jremote).
thanks

I find it strange that the focus is on MAC/Linux in this release.  Over the past year, JRiver must have acquired a lot of new customers coming from Windows Media Center due to Microsoft abandoning it with the release of Windows 10!  I hope that us Windows users will not be left by the wayside...

My #1 request would be for some improvements to the handling of the Windows Media Center remote control.  It works OK if you use Theatre View in "out of the box" mode - but if you want to customize it as I have then you find that some of the most useful buttons no longer work properly.  For example, pressing "Recorded TV" takes me to some place in the Music menu (I renamed that from Audio to Music).  It would appear that Theatre View relies on the original menu names for correct operation of the remote control (I guess they are hard-coded).

My other wish is for better support for 3rd party content such as Amazon Prime and, for the UK users, support for the BBC iPlayer.  Smart TV's can do it, so why not JRiver MC?

There's been plenty of topics here on the forum about Prime, Netflix, Hulu and others. There's no open API for the developers to properly integrate these services into MC. However, there's a workaround - you can get Prime and Netflix (maybe BBC too, assuming it's not using Flash or Silverlight) working through the embedded Chromium engine in MC, if the Widevine CDM plugin is downloaded and working.

Indeed I am using this workaround for Amazon Prime - but it is far from perfect and the BBC are being rather slow at dropping Flash from the iPlayer.

It's a shame that they only seem to share their APIs with the big TV manufacturers.

I believe these are the limitations of doing it this way, unfortunately. The alternative is to use that Netflix Windows 8/10 app method posted elsewhere on these forums. Unfortunately there's no Windows app for Prime (yet).

That sounds like the very basics of what MC does:  It shows you songs, optionally grouped by album, optionally with art work.  You should start a thread on this so that someone can help you configure MC to show your music the way you want to see it.  The above sounds just like the stock views to me.  So I must be missing what you actually want.

I use JRiver only for audio, and have noticed some limitations of the DLNA DSP function. Here's what I'd love to see:

1. Make the "Output Format" DSP active with DLNA so folks can do resampling rather than the default samplerate in the DLNA Servers --> Advanced menu.

2. Get gapless DLNA playback with convolution filter like you're able to do gapless through direct JRiver playback. Account for the filter latency...

3. Fix what looks to me like an issue with playback of DST-compressed DSD64 music. Currently, the music truncates... Probably not accounting for the compression and thinking the music is shorter duration than it really is due to compression.

I suppose #3 is a bugfix. But certainly #2 would be important.

1) Ability to transcode video to h.265 by "Convert Format" menu
2) After watching a TV recording, be able to delete it in two button presses.
3) Theater guide should not jump to the right when scrolling vertically

Feature Requests for MC22

Just to give some perspective: I don't know how common my usage case is compared to the rest of the community, but I use JRiver only for movies and occasionally the WDM audio driver.

I'm not interested in remotes or apps as I have a K400 wireless Logitech keyboard and I find it much better for HTPCs than any of the remote solutions I've tried, physical or software.

I don't use my PC as a DVR/TV because I don't want to leave it on all the time or deal with not being able to use the PC because someone else wants to watch cable TV.

I skipped MC21 because most of the listed features didn't really affect my usage case.  So my comments come from MC20.  At this point, I feel for various reasons the software is rarely useful anymore and I barely ever load it up.

Notice I didn't say bad.  I actually think JRiver MC is really excellent.  It's just development is moving away from my particular needs.

Here's a list of features I'd personally like to see that would get me excited again.

1.  Better Documentation:
Honestly, some of these features may already be available, but the documentation is out of date and only decently organized.  I'd rather not post in a forum unless I have a particularly complicated question.

2.  64-bit support:
It made sense for MC to be 32-bit when madvr was limited to 32-bit, but now madvr has a 64-bit version, and with a memory intensive program like madvr this has added a very significant speed boost.  This was actually the feature that finally sent me back to just using MPC-HC again.

3.  Improve Windows 10 WDM compatibility:
This is probably already better in MC21, but while I used the WDM driver constantly in Windows 8, ever since Windows 10 I get a loud, hissing, static noise 80% of the time I try to use it.  When it works, this feature alone makes MC worth the price.

4.  A way to process HRTF filters (before choosing output mode):
This has come up on the forums a few times.  Currently MC forces choosing the audio output format before allowing any other filters.  It you choose 7.1 output, then apply an HRTF filter Windows then adds “Ghost” or blank audio to the non-stereo channels.  As a result, instead of a HRTF processed stereo being sent to your headphones and/or A/V receiver, a stereo + 5.1 empty channels is sent out. As this point, either windows or your receiver will process the audio again to convert the pseudo-surround into 2-channel stereo.  This mix is not equal to the original 2 channels and it makes virtual surround impossible using MC.

On the other hand, if you choose stereo output Media Center converts your 7.1 file to stereo before applying the HRTF filer.  This again defeats the purpose.

5.  Internal MadVR and Lav Updaters:

MC has internal hidden folders for its filters, and it gets confusing trying to manage my system filters plus MC's versions.  I'm never quite sure which one is loading, especially for LAV.  Madvr development is fast and even when I had the current version of MC, it was often a month behind madvr's current development.  Yeah, there are work-arounds, it's just more confusing than it needs to be.  Some sort of menu option of “Update Lav” and “Update madvr” that let's me point to a madvr zip or a Lav executable and handles the internal update for me would go a long way.

6.  “Virtual” meta entries:

About 20% of my collection is still disc only, but when I browse MC I'd like to see my whole collection.  If I could add a metadata pointer and just have Media Center ask for the disk when I hit play, it would allow me to browse my entire collection- even the movies not on disk.

7.  Blu-Ray menu support:

I put this last because I realize the challenges in implementing this and why it hasn't been done, but Media Center, as is, is useless for TV collections without a lot of time consuming trial and error.  Same for Special Features.

I would really like to have presets for stereo downmixing (voice, music, film, film with louder center, etc...) or access to the downmixing matrix and the possibility to create those presets. Of course those presets would need to be avaiable through the osd in theaterview.

Thank you
1. Also quoting on the possibility to have custom image which stays intact after upgrading.
2. Regarding look of Theater view, every piece of graphics, icons, navigation buttons should be rendered at 2160p and should look more proffesional.
3. Playback bar is also still too 1995 style ( to my eyes ).

Easy to use and understand Composer Sort, Artist Sort, Album Artist Sort and Album Sort tags.

And possibly more structured way of editing tags, with tags grouped into tabs etc.

iTunes in some ways is doing both of these a lot nicer than MC

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

is so simple, somy values are shared we need indipended value changing like separation of font colors and i mean search fonts colors too! a post i make in the No New Posts    Third Party Plug-ins, Programs, and Skins, explain one of the problem most themers had!

for example if you change the colour of the search font on the right up section and the search font colour of the tag menu the import page header change too...

all i say needs more separation of value on xml file... i cant give more info or feedback of this cause if its done when its done propretly you can see themes like never before!!!! and thats a promise!

Been using JRiver for a couple of years now, love it's ease of use and wide range of features. Just upgraded to MC22. If there is one complaint, and I doubt it will ever be rectified, is my old iPod Nano player support. What I currently do is convert my files to my iTunes folder and then upload them from iTunes to my portable player. Not a huge inconvenience but it would still be nice to have JRiver do it all. Probably a moot point because I am looking to upgrade to a better player that also supports flac files.

As for feature requests this might already be possible. I just get very nervous about automatic import tagging features that may impact all my files. I currently have 2 large hard drives one for my main music and the other mirrored as a back up. Which I use Bvckup 2 to monitor, excellent program by the way! So my question is can the auto-import tagging features tag my files to read like this;

01 - Name Title of Song

Currently I use Mp3tag and do each folder one by one using these parameters "$num(%track%,2) - %title%"
