ok--so i'm ripping a cd, and after every song, this big screen appears; largely blank, with a clickable phrase in the middle

what is this, do i need it (well--it hides my ripping progress window) and can i get rid of it?? what <is> it?

Sounds like the new Action Pane... I haven't ripped a CD with MC in... well, ever, so I'm not sure I can tell why that should be happening.

well--it sux--it automatically makes itself the active window, so if i'm doing something else (surfing web) i have to click back on whatever i'm then doing

You're correct. There is a focus problem when ripping a CD in 9.1.233. It should be fixed on Friday.
