Windows 10, remote control for JRiver.
« on: July 18, 2016, 09:11:19 am »

Hi, I was using an old HP remote with IR sensor , this one.

My computer was running Windows 8.1. I seem to remember having a hard time getting the driver for the IR sensor to work, but work it did and it was great.

Then the remote got broken.

Now I have upgraded to windows 10 and I plan to buy a new remote, but I'm wondering if this will work with Windows 10?
Or can anyone recommend a remote that will control JRiver?

I have Gizmo on a tablet but it doesn't have the facility to launch JRiver like the remote does with the big green button.

Any ideas guys? What do you use?

I'm pretty sure any of the RG6 clone remotes will work fine. I upgraded from 7 to 10 and the remote didn't skip a beat.

If you're buying an IR receiver again, you might consider the FLIRC.  I haven't personally used it, but it looks very capable.  Some interesting possibilities for customization.

That's a good remote.  I tested a lot of remotes and IR receivers a few years ago, and the HP remotes always worked.  Still do, as far as I know.

Thanks guys, I plugged the IR receiver in and the computer found it. I then found the other remote that came with my old HP laptop that sadly isn't with me anymore, this all cam,e as a package with my broken remote pictured above so it did all work together.

Now when I press any button the red led lights up on the receiver but nothing else happens, any ideas?

This is the remote I'm using,

This is whats showing in device manager.

Is Media Server running?

There are setup instructions on our wiki.  Look for Media Center Remote.

Hi , yes, Media server is running. I tried the set up procedure but still no joy.
I uninstalled the infrared transceiver in device manager then plugged the transceiver back into the usb and it reinstalled, still no joy.

I also have media server set to start on windows start up.

Ah, is this the problem?

In the Wiki it says ''Point the remote at the receiver and press a button. If it blinks once, the hardware is working. If you see a solid red light, it is not working.''

There isn't a light on the receiver until I press a button, but as long as I hold the button down for there is a solid red light, the light goes out when I release the button.

That's normal.  The remote and receiver are working.
