Pono session prevents video playback on Win10
« on: December 09, 2016, 09:19:32 pm »

Strange but true. If I use Pono to play music, then close the app and go to Youtube, I can't play a video.

I've tested -- this affects any browser (Chrome, IE, Edge) and video from any site (Youtube, Vimeo, ANY site).

I've looked in windows Task Manager for any process that I should kill, but don't see any for Pono or JRiver.

What is causing this?? The only solution is to restart the computer, which is a HUGE pain in the a--.

I should add for volume, I'm using Application Volume.

And Volume Protection is on.

I can close Pono and play music on the Roon trial. But no video from any site in any browser.

If you're using Exclusive Mode in WASAPI, that's what you would expect.  Check the audio settings.

If I go to Tools > Settings > Audio > Audio Device, I see Meridian USB2 ASIO Driver [ASIO].

But if I switch the device to Meridian Explorer USB DAC audio [WASAPI] > Device settings, then I see the check box selected: Open device for exclusive access.

If I clear that check box, close Pono, then launch Chrome and attempt to view a video, no luck -- youtube shows "If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device."

So should that option affect video if I was using ASIO instead of WASAPI? (excluse access was enabled, but shouldn't have been being used)

And doesn't ASIO provide superior sound to WASAPI? I think that's why I enabled it to start with.

When you close Pono, also close Media Server if it is running.
