ROKU Channel / APP
« on: December 11, 2016, 10:37:09 am »

I know there has been discussion about this in the past but as a new owner of a Roku Ultra, I would love to see a JRiver App/channel for the roku, given how poorly designed the Roku Media Player app is.

thoughts?

I'd love it too. I have tried a bunch of ways to serve to a Roku and nothing worked. I think the people that want to do it end up running a Plex server too.

I am actually going to return my Roku given that here is not an appropriate app to work with JRiver.

I think it is a big mistake for JR to not develop a channel for the Roku!!!

I mainly Use Hulu, Amazon, sling tv, and netflix with my ROKU, or Hulu, Amazon, Over the Air TV, and netflix with My Tivo

my system is wired thru the house, a 8 port HDMI splitter to 6 TV's in the house including both bathrooms.

I have been using WDTV's throughout my house and in my theatre.

I download all the tv/movies on my 26 Tb server.  The 6 WDTV units are getting old and will not play HVEC so I want to upgrade to something newer.  I do not use Hulu, netflicks,m or the like.

Roku seesm like a nice system but will not natively play AVI files (which is a bummer) but will play mots other new codecs.

So I am not certain what streaming device I should use.

my system works for me.

ROKU is very popular

I should add I have my computer hooked to my computer with 4 each 10tb drives, and am going to finish ripping my remaining dvd's to it, and the computer is hooked to my system thru a hdmi switch so I can play any tv\movie I have from the computer.

Sounds like we have a very similar setup.

The problem with the Roku is that I am not crazy about the roku media player app as I am unable to Change Views.

Jim,

I have considered it.  I think the issue is that I would like to try it out first to see if it is
"wife friendly".  That is why I got the Roku, I can try it out and simply return it (as I plan to) if it does not work the way that i want it to.

I need something that is very simple to use and to navigate with.  If I like it, I plan on getting 5 units.

I do have several question:
What remote control that I could use with it.  Doe sit come with a remote?
How fast is it to load up?  Once you power up, does it go to a windows screen or to MC?
Will it play all codecs on the fly?  Do I use my main computer (the server side to transcode media or does the ID do it for me)?
Will it do 4K and HVEC?
Is there any way I can try out a unit?

Thanks

Dave

We offer a 30 day return policy.

Any remote that works with MC.  The wiki has a topic on remotes.

Does it come with a remote?
No.

It takes about a minute to start if powered off.  But it uses about 7 watts of power so you can leave it on.

It plays what MC plays.

Transcoding is normally done on the server.

Will it do 4K and HVEC?
No.  That would probably work with a more powerful NUC.  See jmone's recent review.

It's returnable for 30 days.
