Rename file type from .mp3 to .ogg
« on: December 16, 2016, 10:39:15 am »

I have done this before, but I can't remember how I really did it...

I have created a mirror library at another drive and converted the files to .ogg.
After that I pointed the cloned library to the new location.
Now in order for the tracks to be playable, I need to rename the file types in the library from .mp3, .flac etc. to .ogg.

Please, does anyone know how I could do this?

You can use Rename Move and Copy files in Update mode to change the file pointers to point to the new files.  At the same time, you can use the Find & Replace template (which is part of the Rename, Move and Copy tool) to change the file extensions.  You will have to do one RM&C operation per file type.  For example, for MP3, just put ".mp3" in Find and ".ogg" in replace.  That will change the file extensions that MC is looking for, for those files.  Again, UPDATE MODE is the key here.  It only re-writes the file pointer and does not try to rename or move any files.

See full details in the wiki page on RM&C:
