Cannot Play from Windows Media Encoder
« on: December 29, 2016, 09:22:34 pm »

I've searched with no luck.

I have a PC that is streaming using Windows Media Encoder 9. I have no problem playing the stream from another PC using Windows Media Center  > Play URL,  but JRiver always says "There is nothing to play".  What am I doing wrong?

Bump...  Sorry if I'm obsessing here,  but even switched to stream with VLC and again can't get Media Center to play the URL.

I figured it out a long time ago, but lost how....

Please give a little more detail about what you're doing, an example of a URL, and how you're trying to play it in JRiver Media Center.

Source PC:
Windows 7 running Windows Media Encoder 9
Hosting an Audio only Stream, Source Name: "Live"
Output set to "Pull for Encoder" on Port 50600
Host is unifi.cichone.local

Destination PC(s):
Combination of Windows 7 and Windows 10
MC v. 22.0.54

URLs that work with Windows Media Player (File > Open URL):
http://unifi.cichone.local:50600
mms://unifi.cichone.local:50600

Tried the same with MC (File > Open URL):

http://unifi.cichone.local:50600
Result: There is nothing to play

mms://unifi.cichone.local:50600
Result: There is nothing to play

mms://10.10.10.108:50600
Result: There is nothing to play

mms://10.10.10.108:50600/Live
Result: There is nothing to play

I logged each one and the zip is attached.

Thank you for your help and Happy New Year!

That could be explained by a firewall that allowed WMP but not MC.

The log Indicates that MC is receiving an Http 400 error code from the "chichone" server. Firewalls are unlikely to return a 400 code; they usually just don't accept the connection. So it is more likely that your chichone server is rejecting the download request from MC.

erc,
Could you explain what you're trying to accomplish?  It's an unfamiliar server setup.  There may be another way.

Thanks.

Well, shutting down the firewall on the source PC allowed MC to connect.  Duh.

Weird thing is, with the firewall back up, and the item in the Now Playing list, and in my library, it will still play.

Wondering if MC does some additional poking before it will play the first time.

Adding it as a Web Media stream isn't behaving as I expected, so I've made an m3u with the URL in in it and imported.  Now I see it in the mms:// part of Audio>Files>mms://

As to what I'm trying to accomplish....

I have an audio source that plays from a web page.  It has a complicated interface that is designed to keep me from doing what I want.  So I have some AutoIt macros that opens the page, pushes the buttons to start the audio. This is running in a VM.   I have a  Virtual Audio Stream driver that feeds it back to Windows Media Encoder and creates a stream.  What I want is an entry in the Library that will play the stream like any other track.

At one time there was a tool that would take the audio from this service and publish it as multiple mms streams and I could just add those, but it is no longer under development.

From a more advanced topic perspective, I want to trap the mms request, perhaps with some HTTP GET data to allow for adjustments to the web service based on what tracks are selected in MC.
