Black edges [Solved]
« on: January 02, 2017, 08:48:35 pm »

New issue...
TV image in Standard mode will not completely fill my monitors screen. There is about 1/2 inch blank space all around the image.

The blank space also sometimes jumps to almost fill out the screen than quickly jumps back to the 1/2 inch blank space.

I have tried every method that I know to remove it but nothing helps.

Can you post a screenshot?  I am not seeing this issue.  This usually is caused by a combination of MC aspect ratio setting and TV video formatting from the TV stations.

Some more images showing the jumping at the bottom of the TV screen reducing the bottom even more. Note the reduction of the text height.

This was just taken from a BBC live broadcast a few minutes ago.

What is your aspect ratio setting for television?  Is it "Source Aspect Ratio"

What if you tried "Stretch" in Aspect Ratio?

All eight aspect ratio settings (including stretch) leave the blank bars.

I think this is a problem with your display settings.  Can you maximize MC window (or any Windows application that can be maximized) and have it fill the entire screen without black bars around?

I am totally puzzled.

Any other clues?  It is not happening on my computer, and I am positive I have not made any changes recently that would cause this behavior.

I'm running an all AMD system with AND's new Radeon Software Crimson Edition. The problem actually started before Crimson Edition  came out.

At the time I had made no changes to the software & one day MC TV just started showing the blank bars all around the edges.

One thing that I just noticed tonight while watching BBC News was there was a LOT of jumping of the blank bars getting smaller &  larger. I'm talking about it happening sometimes several times per second, like it was flickering. I looked to see what the current aspect ratio was & found it was on Stretch which I seldom use (it was one of the settings I had tried while reporting back to you). Upon resetting it back to Source the sudden jumping stopped but is still there, just much less often.

It could be a driver issue.

I might do a clean install of my AMD software.

Let me think about it.

Will get back if anything changes.

Thanks.

Found the problem ;D

It was one of the AMD Radeon Crimson settings...

Under the Video tab there are settings for...
Default, Sports, Cinema Classic, Vivid, Enhanced, Custom, Home Video & Outdoor.

All were OK with no blank bars around the TV EXCEPT... Home Video settings which I was using. Every time I turned it on the blank bars would show up & go away when selecting any of the other settings.

I also found under Custom that turning on AMD Steady Video would also cause the blank bars to appear.

Not sure who is going to fix this... JRiver or AMD  ::)

I think we'd have to buy AMD to fix that.

Thanks for posting the solution.

Hi Jim;

I'm inclined to agree with you.

I will re-install Hauppauge WinTV8 & if it does the same thing (which I suspect it will) I will then contact AMD to make them aware of the issue.

Thanks
