Norton antivirus problem
« on: July 21, 2003, 09:28:02 am »

Just checked Norton Anti Virus Alert Log and the only entries in there are for Media Jukebox.  There have been 8 in the last 3 weeks all showing a blocked script where the suspicious action was Windows Script Host Shell Object: RegWrite.

Can you take this up with Norton?  It's their problem, not ours.

It's not one of your PlugIns is it King Sparta?

it could be

Norton Antivirus will watch the registry to see if it is being changed if so you may get this warning.

if you aprove the thing you will not get this message.

all it is doing is saving some info depending what plug-in you have running.

sub for lyrics finder

Private Sub Write_Registry()
   On Error GoTo MyError
   Dim MyKey As Variant
   MyKey = "HKCU\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\Plugins\Interface\Lyrics Finder\"
   ' Write Program Options '
   For MyLoop = 0 To 4
       CreateKey MyKey & "Check1(" & MyLoop & ")", Check1(MyLoop).Value
   Next MyLoop

   CreateKey MyKey & "LyricsSubmited", LyricsSubmited.Caption
   CreateKey MyKey & "LyricsReceived", LyricsReceived.Caption
   CreateKey MyKey & "UserControl.BackColor", HScroll1.Value
MyError:
End Sub

nothing major, i run norton also all is well

Thanks King.  I think that explains it.  I guess that Norton is just doing it's job.

Jim - You sound very defensive.  Sorry if my post (now edited) sounded 'accusing' towards MC.  It wasn't meant to be.  I'll be more careful with my choice of words in future.

He may have drank to much sea water.

NAV goes overboard sometimes.

Jim was succinct, that's for sure, but he was just stating a fact.  The problem is with Norton, not MC9.

In some cases, security programs are a case of the cure being worse than the disease.

It is King's plugins - they cause all kinds of trouble - he's the devil in disguise - thats why I have them all installed!!

Dont trust them - tell NAV to kill them all on sight!!

I referred Norton to King's website.  They are going to take special care of his plug-ins in the next virus definitions update.  They agreed to add a new 'option':
Kill Sparta's Plugins if Found? Y/N.

Dont u mean:

'King Sparta's plugin's found - Our AV Software is not powerful enough to deal with this, PLEASE post us your computer and we will try to physically remove it from the hard drive'
Yes/No
'Warning - choosing no will result in a low level format to try and remove all traces of this plugin!'
