Greetings!

You can see my sig below for general system specs. Specifically, I have this LG "Black" Blu-ray burner: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136269 and this ESS Sabre Reference DAC (built into my headphone amp): http://www.esstech.com/index.php/en/products/sabre-digital-analog-converters/sabre-hifi-mobile-dacs/sabre-hifi-stereo-dacs/es9018k2m/ . I have studied this Wiki page: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DSD , altering various settings in different combinations, but no luck with getting SACD playback to function. MC (or my Blu-ray burner transport/disc drive) doesn't even recognize a SACD when it's loaded. After making the various setting changes, I've clicked 'refresh' each time, but to no avail. Incidentally, Redbook CDs play just fine.

So first-off, is my transport/disc drive even compatible with reading SACDs (this may end this discussion right here)?

You can't read SACD discs in a normal CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drive - only except a PCM/CD layer if one exists (those hybrid discs - you won't get SACD playback regardless). You'd need certain SACD players (Oppo or Pioneer, I believe) with modded firmware, or an early modded PS3 console to rip SACD discs to .ISO to use on a PC.

SACD's can't be read or played on a PC.  You can rip them on older PS3's, but it's not trivial.  Try an Internet search to read more about the subject.

I kinda figured. Had to ask. Incidentally, I do own an OPPO BDP103 that plays SACDs. Was just hoping to be able to somehow use the awesome MC interface.

If you click the link I posted mentioning Oppo, I believe you'll find your player can be modded to rip SACDs. If you decide to go through route, you're doing so at your own risk.

If you have SACD .ISOs or .DSF/DFF files, you can play them back in MC, assuming you have a DSD and/or DoP-capable DAC (and enable DSD bitstreaming).

The only modification is to load some software and you can then rip SACDs. Not much risk. On that very long thread, I do not remember anyone ever reporting any damage to their players.

I have a BDP-103 there is no damage as the software is contained on a thumb drive and does not attempt to change the player's firmware.

To add, yes, you can safely rip SACD to ISOs with your Oppo 103.  You do not have to permanently modify the unit's firmware.  Just place some software on a flash drive and power on your Oppo.  Then rip over your network to get the ISO.  When you remove the flash drive and power on your Oppo again, the firmware is back to the original.  It works very well.  My understanding was that Media Center could play ISOs, but I've never gotten that to work.  Added to a post on the topic here and never got a response.  So I've been converting my SACD ISOs to .dsf files.  They play fine from my Synology NAS, through Media Center on a PC to my Oppo.  Unfortunately the do not play correctly from my Synology NAS, through Media Center directly to my Onkyo NR838, or even pulling them directly from the Onkyo (no Media Center involvement), so it's clearly a problem with the receiver, even though they claim it supports .dsf files.

My understanding was that Media Center could play ISOs, but I've never gotten that to work. 

Been doing it for years from my NAS.
