Hi, does anybody knows if JRiver benefits from higher frequency CPU or higher numbers of CORES, when processing Convolution for 8 Channels.

Some software are more sensitive to CPU freq and some are to numbers of Cores in a CPU.

What do you consider hard to believe ?
Software that benefits from higher CPU frequency, numbers of Cores or that I am doing Convolution with 8 channels ?
I am using Acourate filters in JRiver to create 4 Way Xover.

More power, yes.  Certain frequencies or cores, no.

I think I understand what they are trying to ask:
Does Convolution take advantage of multiple cores, or does it just use a single core?

Sensitive to CPU freq = runs on a single core so it needs the fastest possible single core speed.
Sensitive to number of cores = uses multiple cores so it can run 'faster' on a slower processor than a program that single threads in a faster CPU.

Does Convolution take "More" advantage of multiple cores¸, for a cpecific Clock Freq or
Does Convolution take "More" advantage of CPU Clock Freq, for the same quantity of Cores ?

I can see that during Convolution, only 4/8 cores are being used.
Would I get better results by having a higher clock freq ?

I think the question you are asking is how does the jriver Convolver allocate paths to threads?

What is the goal here btw? A modern PC should handle 8 channels without much difficulty unless perhaps it is some tiny thing. You say "would I get better results" which implies you have a problem today, if so what is it?

Hi mattkhan,
If if perform a quad DSF conversion to PCM and performs also Convolution for 8 channels, it starts to be a bit demanding for the PC.
I noticed that at lower CPU freq, I will start having some "clic" or "pops". So that make me believe that it is sensitive to CPU Clock.
I am investigating now with Uli (Audiovero Acourate) if "Convolver" could help in that situation.
I'll keep you posted with the answers.

What kind of audio interface do you have?
I'm running an i5 sandy bridge with 17 channel convolving. To reduce the "clics", rise the buffer size, I use 4096 samples.
With this setup, the cpu load is below 10% when watching video or hearing to multich sacd iso.

I am using JRiver + Acourate filters + Exasound e38.
The buffer size you mean to increase to 10 or even 20 seconds ?
