Clicks, crackles on playback -- & SOLUTION
« on: January 12, 2003, 05:40:26 am »

Hello,

I have used MJB with much satisfaction. I have Abit Bp6 with dual celeron and used MJB version 7 on NT 4.0 and all worked well.  ;D

I bought a new writer (Lite-On LTR 48125S) and changed to Win2k Prof.

Now I had to switch to version 8, since version 7 did not recognise my writer.
:-[

I use dual boot.

Using Win98 It almost works like it should. Almost always he hickups at the end of a song.

Using Win2k Pro, it has many problems:

The visualisations do stop from time to time, but what is really anoying is that he crakles (makes klicking sounds) on playback.

Playback of a MP3 gives less distortion by clicks.

Apparentely he converts (unlike CDplayer) first to Wave before he sends it to my Soundblaster 1024 live, since volume is regulatated by moving the wave slide.

Please help,

Try changing the playback settings.

Try updating the sound card drivers.

After checking on various message boards and usegroups, I found others as well as myself having audio problems with the combination of a Soundblaster Live! card and Windows 2000 Pro.  Not wanting to go back to Windows 98, I instead changed to a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card.  That fixed most of my problems with crackles and pops.

To all concerned,

I reïnstalled MJB8 after a fresh install of Win2k.

I dit not install de downloaded files of Creative !

 :) It works fine.

So if you use the Soundblaster 1024 live, DO NOT use the new drivers together with MJB8

I would like to continue this topic.

I found out that MJB is trying to tell me something I do not understand.

When I play MP3 files from CD it uses red "Notes" and sometimes clicks, whereas when I play it from Disk is uses black "Notes" and plays fine.

Like I said before playing audio tracks from CD is flawless.

Besides I noticed that the "playing-now" icon goes to the next track before the previous one has ended playing.

By the way, when MJB is playing I can play an other file using explorer's playback thing (the tiny play, pause and stop bar) resulting in a wonderfull mix.
