« on: March 07, 2017, 03:49:03 pm »

Hello   i installed jriver  just over a week ago,  i am running it on windows 10 64 bit,  but it just keeps on crashing,  so i reinstalled windows thinking that might be the problem but it hasnt stopped crashing,  quite often it doesnt start up at all saying  mc is running but there may be a problem, the laptop is only a few months old and it doesnt have this issue with any other app,      is this program compatible with windows 10 ?   please forgive my lack of knowledge,    can you please advise?        Thanks

Antivirus is the most common cause of this kind of problem.  There are other possibilities.

What security software do you have installed?  Did you set Windows Defender to allow MC?

More details about what you're doing might help.

Does it crash immediately or after a couple minutes/hours/etc? It *could* be bad files, I'd try disabling auto-import and seeing if MC24 stabilizes - if it does, you probably got bad files.

I do have bitdefender but 23 didnt seem to be affected by it!!   though i seem to remember 23 crashing a lot in the beginning, so i kept using 22 but kept trying 23 occasionally until it appeared to be quite stable,       unfortunately I reinstalled windows 10 and my 23 is gone!  Thanks

Wait, ntdll.dll crash? If so, it's Bitdefender causing it.

Well, read the post I linked to above. If you're getting ntdll.dll crashes, it's caused by Bitdefender.

If you're using a paid version of Bitdefender, you'll have to add MC24's executables to Bitdefender's Advanced Threat Defense exclusions list. If you're using a free version of Bitdefender, the only solution is to uninstall Bitdefender.

IMO, Bitdefender is one of the 'worst' antivirus applications out there, due to the shady stuff it does in regards to DLL injection of its Active Threat Control library, and causing instabilities and crashes because of it.

Uninstall bitdefender, just to test.   It has caused a lot of trouble.

The only anti-virus you should be using on Windows 10 is Windows Defender.

The .exe files. Might also be worth adding the .dll files to the exclusions too. But remember you'll have to add the exclusions to two places within Bitdefender. Both the antivirus exclusions list and the Advanced Threat Defense exclusions list.

The only anti-virus you should be using on Windows 10 is Windows Defender.

I have to agree. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but Windows Defender is actually one of the best antivirus applications right now. In the latest round of reputable third-party tests, it has a 100% detection rate in the real-world tests ranking it in the top-tier of antivirus applications out there, including Bitdefender, Kaspersky, ESET, etc. Doesn't seem that long ago that Windows Defender was treated as a joke and now it's improved so much in a short time.
