OSD causing significant frame rate drop
« on: March 31, 2017, 12:50:22 am »

This is a fairly new issue, and I am not sure whether it's due to recent versions of MC, or whether it's due to a configuration change. I do not recall having made any changes to video configuration recently though.

When video is playing (usually 1080p in my case), activating the OSD causes a noticeable slowdown in the frame rate. It only catches up a second or two after the OSD goes away. Not really sure what could be causing this, and am wondering whether anyone else has seen this phenomenon?

I use ROHD and my video card is a GTX960, but I htink it might be happening with a GTX1070 too.

I'm seeing it too.
I think madVR drops the queue size down when the OSD is being used to reduce latency.
However something seems to have changed and it's now dropping frames badly on my system when it does this.
Never used to happen. May have been introduced in a newer madVR build.

Thanks for the response, RDJames. Hopefully others may have noticed this too if it's a MadVR issue.

I'm not sure what the last sentence means, Hilton?

I think I will repost this thread in the MC23 board later today.

Cheers

EDIT: I get it now - queue size.

Re: OSD causing significant frame rate drop (SOLVED!)

I managed to solve this frame rate drop/stutter.

The MadVR "Present queue" drops to 1-1 / 2 from it's normal 4-5 / 6 when the MC OSD pops up.
MadVR doesn't report any dropped frames, you just see stuttering when the MC OSD pops.

I changed all my queues as per the first screen shot below.
The second shot shows the queues with the OSD showing which no longer stutters while the OSD is showing.

May not be a solution for everyone depending on the power of your system but I don't get any dropped frames or stutters anymore with OSD even with 4K upscaling running.
