2 questions
« on: May 18, 2017, 03:37:08 pm »

PLease do not be irritated if I posted this in the wrong place as this is the very first post I am making...I specifically registered to ask 2 questions.

the first one is regarding HD audio, it seems that the JRiver media center which I have (21) can give me 5.1 sound...as well as DTS but I am not getting HD audio...is this normal?

Second question, is it worth the upgrade to JRiver MC 22? I love Jiriver it is the best media player I come across to date....but one thing I am slightly disappointed at is, it mentions there is a new version but it doesn't seem to say what the differences/changes are? I mean what have they upgraded, is this one able to give me HD audio? The reason why I find this slightly irritating is, as stated I love my JRiver software but I would have thought if they were advertising a new version they would be boasting what it can do, that the previous version couldn't but I can not find this information anywhere....maybe it is but I couldn't see it..thanks folks..

What do you call "HD audio"?  What have you tried, and what were the results?

Without a little more information it will be hard to help, it's a bit of a broad topic.

Hi there and Welcome aboard.

Regarding the new version (I assume you're talking about 23), it's only an upgrade offer right now - you cannot purchase it new.

Regarding what new features they've implement in 22 over 21, probably the best way to see that is to go through the changelogs.

Here is the changelog thread for updates 81 through 105 (the most recent update)

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,110449.0.html

From 68 to 81

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,109835.msg759671.html#msg759671

From 56 - 71

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,109244.msg756237.html#msg756237

33 - 55

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,108723.msg752934.html#msg752934

18 - 32

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,107400.msg745739.html#msg745739

and finally 1 - 18

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,106572.msg740847.html#msg740847

As you can see, many updates and changes.

Re: HD Audio. I've been playing HD Audio (by which I mean, audio at samples rates > 44.1 kHz and bit depth > 16) for many versions of MC.
You should check that your audio card supports the rates and depths you want.
Also, verify that in the JRiver DSP studio (I think that is what it is called), that it is not set to output everything at 44/16.
I'm not in front of my computer with JRiver on it, so if you have trouble, ask, and I (or someone else) can point you where to go.

[size=14pt ][ b]Thank you both (Imugli, ssands and Ferfay) for your responses...on the HD audio, I get this through my arcsoft TMT 5 software no problem on the same PC but when I am using JRiver the best I get is DTS sound like for example most blu rays you can select dobly true HD or HD master audio...I get this via my other software but not JRiver..
BTW I am on MC21 I was thinking about upgrading to 22 although there is a 23 but it seems like 23 is a work in progress and I would rather update to 23 when all the bugs are fixed.
Thanks!

Please don't use large bold type unless you need to add emphasis.  I've edited your post.

Ssands, I can play the files which are in HD audio but they don't seem to be coming through in HD audio format like my other software I use on the same PC..I must stress that the files actually play but they are not coming through JRiver in HD audio. I noticed that I have been using 48 KHz but I tried reducing it...I also noticed if I select on the "output encoding" format section, I can select Dolby digital, which I had it set at..and sure enough I was getting that but not the HD audio..but I had it set to dobly digital so maybe that is why...no HD audio...but then I also noticed if I select it to "none" meaning no encoding, I reckon means as the source is...still no HD audio, but again the file plays, albeit a multi channel audio format but not HD audio..I know it is rather confusing..but just because the files play doesn't mean you are getting them in HD audio..but thank you very much Ssands.

Hi Ferday...here is an example, this is a perfect example....see the screenshot of my JRiver software...if you look you will see the stream says "spanish DTS HD MA" in other words spanish DTS HD master audio, the sound, sounds great through my JRiver but it is only giving me dolby digital 5.1 sound from my blu rays...as my receiver tells me on the front of the display...I play this film on TMT 5 by arcsoft or my DVDfab media player..you can hear a huge difference from the dolby digtial sound to the HD mater audio format...which is a real shame as I love JRiver so much and it seems I can not get it to give me this sound format...I  actually am beginning to reckon that JRiver does not actually give me anyu of the premium HD audio formats, the best it can seem to give me is dolby digital or DTS. so in other words even though there is sound coming through, as stated my receiver is telling me that it is not HD audio...and so do my ears..I would love to justditch all other media players and stick with JRiver but at the moment it is starting to look like I am going tohave to keep at least one of them so I am still getting the best sound format available today on my PC..
thanks again

I posted another screenshot so you can guys can see my settings, this is how I have it set up, I also tried setting to encoding format to none as well and it still won't do it...

Ferday thank you!!!!!  I got it it to work, had to change audio device, I had it on direct sound, had to choose Nvidia high definition audio device.....I am really happy about that...very much appreciated. I assumed it didn't do it, but in fact it is doing it right now (big cheezy grin)  :)
