I've written in BASIC but
« on: August 02, 2017, 04:37:31 pm »

Like apparently a lot of users, I come from a technical background.  I've worked for software vendors for over 30 years in roles including product management, development management, and sales.  And I do find JRiver both wonderful and exasperating.  I have two suggestions:

1) I have a pretty complex setup.  I have three windows boxes and two Raspberry Pis.  I use Gizmo on both an android phone and an android tablet.  Every once in awhile things just don't work ... Gizmo stalls out, servers disappear...  It would be really great if MC had some internal speed/quality/connection check/wizard that could help diagnose bottlenecks.  I'd love that.

2) I've written in BASIC, C++, FORTRAN, Pascal, and even assembly.   But it's hard to figure out how to use expressions on MC.  It looks powerful but I don't know how to start. A short tutorial, something as simple as a "hello world" bit of code, including how you write it, where you put it, and where you invoke it would be great.

the wiki is pretty good and has plenty of tutorial and an example of each expression

Check out this video.  Starting at around 8:25, Ted_b has a nice introduction to expressions using a practical example:

The whole video is probably worth watching all on it's own.  Ted gave me a GREAT start into more advanced JRiver MC topics.  This video and at least one more are linked from this page:

Good luck.
