Audio Stuttering on DLNA Server
« on: February 01, 2019, 02:58:02 pm »

For the past 2 weeks, I have been using JRiver DLNA server and stream to Ifi Pro idsd. I have my Windows 10 PC and Pro idsd both connected via ethernet to a network switch. I have no problem setting up the JRiver DLNA. I left everything at no conversion and everything from MP3-> DSD play fine. The problem is after a few hours, audio will start to stutter. So I ran LatencyMon and the problem seem to rise from Wifi, so turned off Wifi completely, this seems to have taken care of the problem, but a few hours later the stuttering is back. Once it stutters, it will be for all audio formats regardless of bitrate. I then tried removing Windows Defender. This didn't really help. All my files are on an internal harddrive in the Windows 10 PC. It's i5 8600, 16gb ram, with OS on  NVME SSD, so it should be plenty fast.  Everytime it stutters, I restart the computer, then I'm usually good for a few hours of listening before the stutter comes back.

My guess is that there is some memory leak with Windows 10 hosting DLNA server, but I can't seem to figure out where the problem is.

Has anyone ran into this issue?

The network interface may be going into a low power state.  Maybe a BIOS setting?

Let me check. I have not played with Bios. The same thing happens when I was using Audirvana+ UPNP, so truly think it's a Windows issues. I'm going to check bios later.

I have done pretty much everything in Windows. It will play fine for a few days now, but then ultimately the stutter will come back. A simple restart will take care of it. Still kind of annoy, but network streaming just sounds better than any USB source.

My only other thinking is that should I buy a dedicated ethernet card right now using motherboard's integrated ethernet port. Or I can get some Cat6 cables. All my cables are Cat5e.

Certainly Ethernet would be more reliable than WiFi.

I also suggest that you look at how your devices get their IP addresses. If either the renderer or the control point were using DHCP then a DHCP lease renewal might lead to an IP address change that would break any HTTP streams. Make sure to use either a (unique) static IP on both devices, or b) use DHCP with specific IP reservations on each.
