When will we have a JRiver UWP application, preferably with a SoundByte-like interface?
I think I'd be very good for your application.
Have you ever thought about using bridge to convert from x86 to UWP?
I would love to have the application UWP of you.

Sort of related, there's a thing now called Centennial or Desktop Bridge, that lets developers wrap their apps in an appx and publish them in Microsoft Store on Windows. These apps are available using emulation on devices running Windows S version of the OS that cannot install win32 apps otherwise. Some great and iconic apps were put into the Store this way and more are coming. There's a question of how your model of licensing could be done in the Store, and there's probably one hundred other things that would have to be changed or at least tweaked for JRiver to work as an appx, but it is something worth exploring. I, for one, would prefer to install JRiver that way for convenience in installing, updating and so on.

IMO, it's not worth porting to UWP when Win32 apps still work perfectly well (and likely better than a UWP port would).

That's possible it would work a bit different, or it could work better. I think only JRiver's team can really know that. However, I watched this year's MSFT Build conference and they said that Desktop Bridge is basically the same app, only with some minor changes if necessary, so it can be implied that no noticable difference in performance should happen.

EDIT: by the way, that wouldn't really be UWP, rather a win32 wrapped in appx that installs and uninstalls easily, doesn't use system registry, avoids dll hell and is easier to update in-between major releases.

Oh, you mean adding Win32 apps for distribution on the Microsoft Store. Don't think this will work for MC due to its licensing model (among other reasons), for example. In my mind, going this route for MC would actually be restrictive to the developers (as you'd be behind a walled garden, having to rely on the Microsoft Store to push updates, etc.). Likely the same reason you'll never see MC for Mac for sale in the Apple App Store.

Walled gardens are not always a good thing, even if it means getting MC working on Windows 10 S (I actually feel sorry for anyone who buys one of these devices). Honestly? I think these attempts by Microsoft to push the Store and UWP in general are in vain. Windows 10 Mobile has failed and the majority of developers have no interest in porting their apps to UWP (or have their Win32 apps listed in the Microsoft Store for that matter).

IMO, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The biggest problem I see is that MSFT take a gruesome cut on Store fee that is standardised at 30-20%, which, while likely negotiable, isn't something you can avoid completely. Thus, the app would likely have to be more expensive there. I'd be fine with that.

I honestly wouldn't hold my breath on it. There's literally no benefit or incentive to JRiver to even consider doing this... even if that means allowing Windows 10 S support, which IMO the user base of that OS is likely VERY small.

If you wanted to, you can convert Win 10 S to Win 10 pro.  If you have a surface the upgrade is free and if not its 49 bucks
