I noticed with the new 64bit Version the windows start continues to work even after watching a whole movie. With the 32bit version it would it not work anymore after using media centre for an extended period.
Not sure if this "fix" is coincidental or intentional but either way it was nice to find.

This alone for me would be a good reason to swap :)!  Already tried the 64 bit version everything seemed fine except it wouldn't send Hauppage IR blaster commands so I reverted back and decided to wait a little longer...

But this alone would be nice so I'll give it another shot and report back if I see issues with it.

thx!

Didn't pick up registration on any of my 3 installs. Can't sync iPod or Android handhelds. They don't show up under devices.  Redetecting drives didn't help.

Android media device not showing up under "Drives & Devices"

On my machine the 64bit version has the same start menu problem as the 32bit version.  Nothing changed.

This is a Windows problem, not a JRiver problem. It also affects other software (e.g. Steam, Adobe applications, etc.).

There is a workaround here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,106925.0.html

Thanks for posting.  I have followed this issue closely.  The workaround is great!  Just commenting about a report that the 64bit version might have inherently solved the problem.  It does not.

With the 64-bit version, ROHQ manages to display only a couple of frames per second watching a TV recording. RO standard works fine. Graphics card is a GTX970 with Sep 21 WHQL driver and up-to-date Win 10 environment, 16GB DRAM and reasonably fast system otherwise.

ROHQ on the 32-bit version managed stutter-free video, but crashed from time to time, so I couldn't use it.

The Chromium browser plugin is missing in the 64 bit version. You can select Chromium in the Options menu but it defaults to IE since it can't find the 64 bit Chromium plugin.

When you look in the JRiver plugin directory in user/appdata/roaming, there is a Chromium64 directory but it's empty.

Can you please add this in the 64 bit version. Some websites don't work properly when using IE.

Thanks

I Confirm the IR Blaster is not working for me with the 64 bit version.  I tried re-running the TV set-up and it does not even show up (see 32 bit snaphot) 64 bit shows the MCE one which I'm not using.

If you need more info or logs let me know.

IR Blasting for Hauppauge devices relies on a proprietary driver to be installed on your system (hcwirblast.dll), which probably comes with your IR blaster device. If this is not available in 64-bit, then MC cannot use it.
A quick check didn't really turn up any information if its available. I would probably be in C:\Windows\System32 if it exists (not in SysWOW64 - thats the 32-bit version).

If anything like that exists but it still doesn't work, let us know. Unfortunately I don't actually have such a device, but maybe Yaobing does? He wrote this years ago.

I have a 64 bit system but hesitant to install the new program. Old saying, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but if there is a significant improvement in audio performance, I will install it. So is there that type of improvement in audio performance??

No.  JRiver has not said that they did anything to improve audio performance.  They do not advertise it as such.  It's just a 64 bit port.  You won't notice any audio improvement at all.

Brian.

With the 64 bit system comes an improved play from memory system which allows the whole album to be loaded. Some will argue that this can improve sound, although that is certainly a point for debate.

MC hands the data off to a driver. It is theoretically possible that a driver may perform better at 64 bit than at 32 bit. For example, it may have better jitter performance. Not very like, but possible in some cases.

In addition,  if you are at the edge of your system performance with conversions or DSPS, the improved performance may possibly improve the sound.

As for MC providing the correct bits, that does not change.

My conclusion would be that it is highly unlikely that 64 bits makes a difference but these ancillary issues can possibly make a difference in rare cases. But I would certainly not count on it.

Jim or Matt
I think I put the following post in the wrong place Here:https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,112509.0.html
Post was as follows and has been confirmed by another member AndrewFG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,first I think that the 64bit version is excellent, the extra memory usage available is very useful

and no real issues in use, other than, something I believe I have a answer for(although not the implementation of)

I like to use JRiver to play my DSD collection, and use JRiver as a memory player.

I like to load the full album to the memory, and when I press play and this process starts

the Library window locks up and I can do nothing else until the album has loaded.

And as the files are quite large this take a little time,so if I press play and quickly press

the Windows key the library window minimizes(although you have to be quick).

So I would like to ask if it is possible to add an option setting to the options window,

to check off, for "minimize on play"/so that if this is checked and you press play the

library window minimizes at that moment, and the file loads in the background.

Allowing the user to continue what they might be doing, while the file is loading

Thank you all again, for the 64bit option to JRiver Media Center

Maybe a stupid question but before I try I figured I'd ask. Are there any 32bit / 64 bit incompatibilities? I want to try the 64 bit on a client while leaving the server on 32 bit.

I ran that way for a while. It worked fine, although I had some other issues related to OpenGL in Theatre View on the Server that muddied the waters a bit. Once Dolby Digital support arrived in the 64bit version I converted the Server to 64bit as well. All good.

Hi,
Tried to rip CD to local disk (as you suggest) in my dedicated Dell Latitude and it works.
So, it should be a problem with my Synology NAS.
It was. The problem was the Dell accessing the Synology as a guest (don't know why), without write privileges.
After disabling guest access on the Synology, Dell Latitude accesses now using the administrator account with write privileges (with proper Windows Credentials).
Problem solved thanks to your suggestion.
Note: this may affect other JRiver users with Synology NASs.
Many thanks

Designed by Gordon Bell and Edson de Castro at DEC. 12 bit words  and 32k word maximum memory. Ran OS/8. Used RK-05 disks with a capacity of 1.6M words. de Castro left DEC to found Data General so he could build a 16 bit machine.

It may be true that the 64bit version should not technically make any difference from the 32bit version, but in my ears the 64bit version sounds better. It is true that the difference resides in nuances and dynamics that are sounding better than on the 32bit version. Is it a technically better sound or not? I don't even care as long as my listening experience is better.
I was very critical when after an update the sound quality went down, and the JRiver guys said that nothing changed, and it shouldn't be any difference.
To be fair now I wanted to say also that yes, this time sound quality is better. And the reason cannot be any driver that works better on 64bits, because I am and I always used DLNA, using the same renderer, with the same settings.

Installed MediaCenter230073-x64.exe on Win7-64-Ultimate and it went straight forward.  Did backup and uninstall first.  Did not have to re-enter license.  Did have to re-specify what drivers to use for my W4S DAC.  Afterwards, it recognized resolutions from 16/44 to DSD-128 without any problems.  Only using for lossless audio playback (flac, DSD, wav), no video.

OS and Library is installed on local SSDs.  Set memory playback to decoded track.  Largest single 2.3GB flac file and 1.3GB dsf file were able to load, decode and playback with no problems.  Takes a couple of CPU % to load and decode and then playback proceeds at 0% total CPU load.  DLP Latency Check hovers @ 75 µs.

Performance appears snappier than the 32-bit version.  Load and start of playback is very fast.  So far, so good.

MC, thanks much for making a great product and now a 64-bit version.

Just to confirm before I add any extra frustration to my life.

When moving to the 64 bit version: I can just backup my library. Uninstall the 32 bit version. Install 64 bit version. Restore backed up library. Everything works as it was but now in a dazzling 64 bits.

Just install the 64 bit version.  It should find your library and settings.

Hello
When playing music, when you go to audio path, should it be at 32 bit output or 64 bit ?

Bit-depth of the output audio and the computer architecture of the OS/CPU/system are two completely different things.

So having JRiver 64 bit does nothing for audio playback?

So having JRiver 64 bit does nothing for audio playback?

Why would it? A change in the architecture (from 32-bit to 64-bit) doesn't affect audio playback. What you're seeing in audio path is the bit-depth of the output (e.g. 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit, etc.). While they may seem similar using the same wording, they're two completely different things.

Look at the links I posted above for more info.

Why then 32 bit ?

For what? Audio path output bit-depth? Because that's the max bit-depth most DACs support. Depending on the output driver you're using and your settings, JRiver will automatically output audio at the highest bit-depth supported with your device(s).

So I should set in ASIO 16bit for CD and 24bit for studio masters ?

I suggest setting it to the highest bit-depth your ASIO driver and DAC supports via the ASIO Driver Control Panel. I have my AISO bit-depth set at 32-bit for everything. It doesn't matter if 16-bit/24-bit audio is being output at 32-bit (as shown via audio path), JRiver pads the 16-bit/24-bit bit-depth to 32-bit (or whatever the max bit-depth is supported by your ASIO driver/DAC) on-the-fly and even with the bit-depth padding it's still bit-perfect to the source and there's no resampling/dithering involved. However if you're downsampling from 24-bit to 16-bit, there is resampling/dithering involved and it's no longer bit-perfect with the source.

Here's what my AISO driver output it set to;

And here's my audio path as a result;
