Yeah, using DSP will affect bit-perfect playback compared to the source. In my case I have to use volume leveling + adaptive volume on-the-fly, since I can't stand albums mastered "loud" and digital clipping. I'm willing to make that sacrifice in that case.

However if I understand how this all works correctly and you have a DAC with Digital Volume (such as the DragonFly Red or an Exasound) MC will just adjust the volume output based on those 2 DSPs working together and you still have a bit-perfect output...

I want to switch temporarly back to 32 bit from 64 since I am trying the VSF plugin from Dirac Live. Is there a painless way (I want to keep my settings safely)
thanks

Why not just use the DL plug-ins in the 64bit version?

Why not just use the DL plug-ins in the 64bit version?
This is what I did but JRiver reply with an error. It make sense since 32 bit DLLs (as the DL VST plugins are) cannot work with 64 bit code (as JRiver is)
I am asking DL if they can deliver 64 bit program and plugin (I am kind of beta user)

BTW, I wonder if the configuration informations are stored in a single file un the JRiver inst dir or wherever (hope not windows registry :))

thanks

OK, I ended up installing both 32 and 64 bit version. For some unknown (so far) reasons th new (32bit) installation maintains the the configuraion setup so I did not re-configure again
The 32-bit version support the Dirac VST plugin so at the moment I will stay with 32bit until Dirac  will not reelase the 64bit version of the plugin
The configuration foresee to start JRiver at WIN10 staup so probably this will start both servers using the same port :(
I will disable this option until I understand how / where JRiver configuration is managed

There will be new officially-supported plug-ins with the new Dirac to be announced at CES.

Hi.

I switched to the 64-bit version of the program and ran into this problem:
When JRiver running if I press the left mouse button on the track nothing happens, ie the track does not play, Ie have to transfer the track manualy to the window play now by mouse. But when jriver not running, when I press the left mouse button on the track in my hard disk on windows, JRiver starts and the track begins to play.

In 32-bit JRiver version there was no such problem.

Tell me please what is the problem and how to solve it?

Tnx.

I just upgraded from 32-bit MC 22 to 64-bit MC 23. If I also install 32-bit MC 23 (because my USB-UIRT won't work with MC 23 64-bit as reported by others, too) do I have to uninstall the 64-bit version to avoid trouble, or can they co-exist like MC 22 and MC 23 on the same machine?

More-or-less, sure, they can co-exist on the same system. But I wouldn't want to try running both 32-bit and 64-bit MC at the same time though. Also if you use Media Server (and/or start Media Center at startup) you might want to just choose one of the two in that case.

Both at once! No, nor would I.
My 32-bit version is on my C:drive, as usual.
What if I installed 64-bit on my D:drive. Would everything to do with installation be on the D:drive, or does MC do its own things and stick some stuff on the typical installation drive, C? eg. Users folder?
In other words I want to segregate the two coz I am not sure I want the 64-bit, and I have no test machine. (And no VR thank you)  :)

Would everything to do with installation be on the D:drive

No. MC registers components with Windows, and those components are specific to the 32 or 64 bit versions.

Just install both on the C: and NEVER run them both at the same time. That includes the Media Server. If you shut down the 32bit version to switch to the 64bit version, make sure that the 32bit Media Server (if you run it) is also closed down. Same going the other way. The 32bit version will be installed in the /Program File (x86)/ directory, while the 64bit version will be installed in the /Program Files/ directory. They will share stuff under the /Users/ directory, including the library, and that is fine.

Also, when you change from one version to the other, expect Windows UAC to ask if it is okay for MC to change your system. Tell it Yes every time. MC is registering the correct version of components when this happens.

Once again, just minutes behind you Jim.  ;)

RoderickGI, thank you for your clear and concise reply. You empathised with my anxiety and fully understood my question.

When you said "The 32bit version will be installed in the /Program File (x86)/ directory, while the 64bit version will be installed in the /Program Files/ directory. They will share stuff under the /Users/ directory, including the library, and that is fine." that is exactly what I wanted to learn and understand. Its great that folk like you can communicate with us fumbling users.

Being a noob on this whole 64 bit thing, what exactly is the advantage of going to 64 bit? I'm on a 64 bit machine but downloaded the 32 bit version of MC and have no issues at all. Will I notice any difference is playback with a 64 it?

If you watch 4K videos and stuff like that, it'll definitely benefit from 64-bit.

Glad to get x64 JRiver going. Was hoping it would help kill the little stuttering with running Sound Spectrum Aeon as graphics visualization within a Player.

Audio is playing great. But every time I right-click on the Player background of the album art graphic to select a visualization... the first right-click instantly causes the player to stall. Audio stutters a couple times, then JRiver x64 crashes completely.

Is this a known bug?... or this part of the x64 version isn't expected to run yet?

Thanks.

Right clicking in the space next to the Album Art in the Player (while it's playing) causing a near instant JRiver x64 crash must be a problem with the x64 version of JRiver. Simply right clicking in that space should not cause JRiver to crash. JRiver x86 works without problem. Why wouldn't the x64 version?

There's no plugin ever selected. JRiver x64 crashes as soon as you right click in the Album Art space. No menu to select a plugin ever displays. Right click... crash.

Just a quick update... definitely crash with visualizations caused by SoundSpectrum x64 JRiver support. Removed SoundSpectrum Aeon, G-Force and Whitecap... JRiver MC23 x64 default visualizations work okay. Install SoundSpectrum x64 JRiver support... crashes JRiver when attempt to instantiate in Player. So it appears that it's NOT JRiver MC23 x64 problem. I raised a support ticket with SoundSpectrum.

A big thanks goes out JRiver for making the 64 bit version.

I finally got around to installing it on my workshop system to test a OB subwoofer build.  The 32-bit version was unusable on the ancient demoted laptop that I was using but the 64-bit version has breathed new life into it.  The speed optimizations are quite noticeable on this old machine.

Again, JRiver,  THANK YOU !!!

I use JRiver only for music files in two channel (16/44.1 up to 24/192 + DSD64). I have tried DSD128 but get "tics/pops" coming and going. I use Aesthetix Romulus CD/DAC plus W10 on a laptop of 8 GB internal memory. Some questions:

1. Does 64 make any contributions for my use?
2. Could the "tic/pops" on DSD128 has something to do with 32 vs 64?
3. Other ideas on why I get "tics/pops" on DSD128? Any thoughts?

For a 5 yr old i3 laptop with 4gb RAM running windows 8.1, would people still recommend 64 bit over 32? Would there be an advantage? or would it slow down due to more memory usage of the 64 bit version maxing out at 4gb with my system. This is assuming I load tracks decoded to memory and have asio settings at safe/16384 samples when using 64 bit.
