Unable to configure IR Blaster with some HP MCE Remote models.
« on: November 03, 2017, 01:16:18 pm »

I'm reviving an old issue not specific to MC23 32 or 64 bits but still present where I can't configure the IR Blaster for the STB on certain MCE transceivers and get the following error message:

"You don't a appear to have a Media Center receiver connected to your computer.  Please connect it and try again."
Message.

I have 4 MCE Remotes. 2 are the HP models and look identical to the ones on the Wiki and on the remote config page.  Ironically those are the ones I can't configure.
All 4 function properly to control MC.

I have a Toshiba one and and another model as per this pics attached. Those 2 are working fine.
After fiddling around I found a way to get the blaster working on the HP ones.

With my working Toshiba MCE transceiver plugged in...
(Which I've been using since the 64bit version came out to replace the hauppauge 32 bit blaster and has already been configured and working with my set top box).
1. I go under options Remotes
2. Hit next
3. Hit back
4. Unplug the working Toshiba and the IR Blaster.
5. Connect the non-working HP MCE and connect the IR blaster to it
6. Hit next
7. Hit Back
8. Click OK.

Then this HP Transceiver Will work even after a restart... All of that to say there is a bug with MC not allowing it to run the IR Blaster config for certain models...
As I said I've had this same issues years back when playing with this and it's still here.  Nothing wrong with the hardware since both the HP problematic transceivers behave the same way and the blaster will work withthe workaround above...

Running windows 10.  I was on Windows 7 back then when I was experiencing the same issue.
Back then I also thought "and  posted" I thought it had something to do with WMC but I don't think it's related...

What are the model number and part number of your HP remote set that does not work?

Mine is probably older than yours.  Model OVU400103/00.  HP P/N 5188-1667.  It does not have the words "hp media center" on its face.  I should get one like yours.

Looks like mine are even older than yours!
Both are Model OVU400102/71.
One of the 2 is HP P/N 5187-4593 but don't know the P/N on the other one the label is gone...

The funny looking Dell which is working like the Toshiba is Model 412002/00.
The Toshiba doesn't have a similar model number...

Hi Yaobing,

This is secondary but worth mentioning...

The IR port/label numbers on the working ones (Toshiba and Dell) are reversed in MC. for me..
ie for it to work when you choose the IR port 1 it actually responds on the second port and vice versa.

I remember you changing or fixing this but this fix was to ensure the IR blaster port during setup would be the same as the one after setup. This fixed the issue but port #'s are still reversed for me.  I never tried the Dell transceiver Blaster which is why I bring this up and is also reversed but working fine...Definitely not as important as resolving the other non-working issue and may screw things up for others with different MCE transceivers...

It seems that different people (manufacturer/driver writer etc.) interpreted how port numbers are represented differently.  That might account for the mix up.  If my guess is right, then there is no good way of fixing this other than telling people to change the labels themselves (or just switch the ports around).
