laptop setup
« on: December 09, 2017, 08:26:03 am »

I set up MC23 on 3 laptops. Did the 30 day trial and yesterday bought a license (instead of upgrading, hoping for less complications)

The laptop with the library is fine. New license installed.
The second laptop is fine.New license installed.
The 3rd laptop shows no albums. No clue what it is doing for a license.

I uninstalled, reinstalled... Off on. Prayed.

How do I set the 3rd lap top to act as the 2nd laptop. Display the music files?

Install MC first, then restore your MC23 license.  Details are here:

I would start with the WIKI:

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Network

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Server
Note the DLNA settings. If set up properly you should see a "Send To" item when right clicking an audio file that list your devices.

It's hard to follow what you're doing and what you want, but your screenshot shows that you have loaded the library of the machine you call Audio Laptop.  If you now want to play media from that library back to it, click on Player and then play.  Player is the same machine.

All I want to do is have the client (in the photo) to appear on the other clients, apps and server.

Again, I have 3 laptops
1 is the one with the library, the server.
2 is the Lenovo laptop (this is working fine)
3 the 3rd laptop. (this is the one in the photo. It is a client and can play from the library/server but it cannot be controlled by any app or other laptop as it is not listed by any)

Please try using MC alone, without nMedium, to see what happens.

nMedium has nothing to do with this

The only reason I even turned it on was to see if showed the laptop as a player.

no players show the one PC

again, the issue is that the one laptop (out of 3) does not show on any other device.

(therefore I can only use it as a player if I control it directly)

The laptop with the library works fine.

The laptop that I use as a client works fine.

All DLNA devices work fine.

-------------------

Is the process for setting up an additional client laptop different from setting up the first client laptop?

It wan;'t last week when it was in trail period.

Please, please try to follow

I am listen to music on two of three laptops at present.

As you can in the pic, it only shows 2 laptops. The 3rd which is presently playing is not shown so can't be controlled from anywhere but at that laptop.

anybody? this has got to be an easy fix

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, done everything I can think of.

it's just the one client that is not seen although it can access the  server.

If one works and another doesn't, it's probably either a setup problem or a firewall problem.

If it were a firewall issue, why can I see the server and the files therein?
it worked before I entered the new license key so a firewall issue seems remote.

I am sure it is a setup issue as
the setup was not the same as on the other two laptops.  The other two laptops did everything themselves automatically when i clicked on the key.

This laptop did not. I had to wrestle it to get as far as I've gotten.
-------------------

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled.

I'll do it again if someone can walk me through it.

I followed the links for setup that were left and that got me closer, it enabled the client to see the server files and play them. I am not new to this, I have been around since MC18.

I understand it was only another $50 dollars but if it does not work, it's like burning money.

Nevermind the vast amounts of time, now and in the past...

It's extremely unlikely that the license has anything to do with the problem.  It doesn't change the program or its settings.

Compare settings carefully.

Windows could also be a factor.  There have been some flaky updates lately.

Don't rule anything out.

If you had trouble licensing, then there may be a problem with "security" software on the machine.  Antivirus software, for example.

I obviously need someone to walk me through trouble shooting.

Telling me what it may or may not be does not help me as I do not know how to go about testing and possibly fixing.

I was careful to buy a new license rather than upgrade.

I had bought a new laptop just for audio, set everything up under the 30 day trial and made sure it all worked.

All I did was add a license.

I am willing, for a second time to uninstall and reinstall JRiver. Heck, I'll even take the client that is the problem down to factory setting if need be, but darn it, I need someone to take ownership of this, which is likely a simple fix.

It did enjoy an update .... but then again, all my laptops did...

Should I uninstall yet again?

Uninstalling and re-installing rarely has any effect.

I don't have an answer for you.   Sorry.

We've spent quite a little time trying to help you, but I don't think this is a JRiver issue.

Your best approach would be to compare the working and non-working machines carefully, settings and all.  If you suspect a Windows problem, you can roll back to an earlier version.

lets be clear, you have offered no help what so ever

I have begged for help here

you did not even take the time to try and understand the problem which was obvious in the replies
