So will MC24 be released for the Raspberry PI?
This seems a great feature for the PI.

For Linux, yes, which includes an ARM build that the Pi can run, likely depending on Linux distro used on the Pi.

I'm using the Pi release from JRiver so I hope they release it quickly. The Pi seems to lag behind as it currently is MC22.

I'm running MC 23 on my Pis. Try running this command to bring your Pi up to date:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Does your Pi distro include a Terminal app? If so, that should do.

Have you tried to install the ARM build of 23.0.102 manually using sudo dpkg -i pathtothe.debfile from the Terminal yet? Not sure, but you might need a distro based on Stretch and not Jessie. Not sure if the requirements for MC have increased to Stretch yet or not.

You never mentioned what distro you're using. No doubt this discussion will probably be split off from this topic into its own topic.

OK that worked but it doesn't get any of the MC22 settings or library. Is there an upgrade option?

you have to do a backup in the old version and then restore into the newer one

But what about the Xterm with the MC menu items in it. Won't they still control the old MC22 version.

Yes. It's the standard Linux license upgrade.

If I buy the Id SD Card for Raspberry Pi, planning to run it as a renderer, and the JRiver "server" is on a Windows HTPC, what license do I have to buy? One Linux and one Windows, or this combined, or only Windows?

The IdPi on a microSD card includes its own license. You would need either a Windows license or a Master license on the Windows machine.

As far as I know, the Raspberry Pi isn't powerful enough to do video. It'll do fine for audio though.

For video you'd probably have to use a NUC or something like that, depending the type(s) of video you're planning to use with it.

It still isn't powerful enough - likely won't be for a couple years. Plus I don't think MC on a Pi supports video either, if I recall correctly.

Like I said, depending on what video content you're intending to use, a NUC might work.

I've been using a Pi3 with MC for a year or so now. It works fine for audio. But it's definitely a low powered box. For instance, you can't really build thumbnails and listen to music at the same time. That will frequently crash MC as the Pi doesn't have enough memory to really do both at once correctly.

So I build thumbnails when I do mass library updates and just let it run for a few hours. Then listen to music for months afterward with few issues.

Building a Pi with Raspbian and MC isn't easy. It's not bad, but it's not simple either. I have a multi-page set of notes on how to do it, mostly copied from AD's great guide he posted on the Linux MC forum, but with a bunch of my own specific stuff that I do for my Pi setup.
