Getting CD ripping error messages...

I too am seeing these errors when ripping. 'Cannot copy <track>: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect' followed by 'Failed to update the following files: <full path to track>'.

The track is in fact ripped fine and to the correct location though.

Ripping is definitely not working.  At then end of every track (while attempting to write the tags maybe) I get a message stating that "The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect".  The tags do seem to be in the file however.

The UI is very slow.  Every keystroke and mouseclick seems to cause the mouse pointer to change to the hourglass briefly.  When you type in the Output File Location fields in the File Naming & Location dialog the echo back is delayed.  Just bringing up the Options dialog itself spins my 2.4ghz P4 at 100% for a second or two.

Remy,
I saw the same thing on ripping and reported it.

The speed issue could be a funky skin.  It isn't normal.  Are  you using PixOS?  Does it look OK?

I've run it on my 1.8Ghz PC at work with no noticeable delay.

It installed flawlessly and even fixed the burning issues I was having with 9.0.180 (incorrect CD text, cues, and MP3s that halt in mid-play).

About the UI:  I am torn.  Apple has a good thing going but I hate to see all other programs follow suit rather than innovate on their own terms.  Being a programmer myself, I like the VS.NET approach with sub-windows that can be docked all around, auto-hide themselves, etc.  I wouldn't mind seeing something similar in MC at least as far as user-configurable docking windows goes.

I do not, however, like the button bar being on the bottom.  It's very awkward.

No bugs yet to report.  Great work, guys.

One thing I have noticed, when editing file properties in non full screen mode (when the properties window is docked on the left side of the screen) the properties tool bar autohides, causing whatever I am editing to automatically save. For example I will get part of a revised track name entered, the bar hides, and the editor saves a half finished track name.  Then I have to go back and finish.

Oooh, yes.  If fullscreen/hairstyle could auto-hide everything but the visualizations AND maintain remote-controllability I would be in heaven!

PixOS it is.  I even reinstalled.  It looks fine (with one exception, below) it's just sluggish.  On my 366mhz laptop I swear I can see the individual pixels being drawn (ok, almost :) )

Also, actions that should update the details view, like dragging items into another playlist, renaming files that should cause them to be removed from the current view, etc, aren't causing the view to update.  You have to hit F5 to get them removed.

Minor note:  Menu items that are disabled are blank instead if greyed out.  Select Start in the tree then open the File menu.  There's blank space where Print... and Export Playlist... should be.  If you hover over them, they'll show.  Maybe just a skin thing.

I think maybe (, possibly, perhaps, etc.) this has been complained about before, but I am not sure, so here's a functional quirk that should be fixed:

When in the search filter box, pressing <enter> when it's empty (i.e., you changed your mind and want to bail) clears the entire list except the currently playing song.

I'm really interested in trying out this beta.  However, I was wondering whether there was anything that I had to do w/ reguard to license files?  If I don't like the beta, or find it isn't stable enough, do I lose one of my re-installs if I uninstall and go back to a regular version of MC?  Or, is there a license file that I just have to make sure is present that lets this work?

Sorry, if this is addresses elsewhere.

Thanks,

When changing the GUI, couldn't you place the crossfade-settings on the main window??

Thanks

This happens for me in every screen mode. Tagging is just impossible with this behavior.

I just downloaded the beta and must say I like the look of the GUI.

I have noticed a small problem though. If you set the bottom left display area to show playlists the main playlist tree can be expanded using the small + but there is no small + next to any playlist groups within the main playlist tree. This prevent me from accessing any of my playlists from this window.

Edit:

I only have smartlists defined. When I accidentally created a playlist this showed up in the bottom left hand panel. It seems that this panel is not able to display smartlists, only playlists.

Congratulations on a most impressive and great looking design.  I've had very litttle time to play with it, but really like what I've seen.

The only problem I've encountered is that it forced me to use a license restore, saying that my license had expired.  Is it possible for the restores to be reset?

Phil Lee> I believe the logic here is that, since the Smartlist rules define what files are in it, then you can't manually add a file to it, so why include smartlists in a window that's designed to add and remove files from playlists? If that makes sense. Of course, it might be nice if smartlists would show up, with disabled check boxes so that we could at least see if a file were a member of that smartlist.

Bug : If you add too many toolbar buttons to the toolbar, they disappear behind that giant status bar.

So, is there no way to move the Properties pane to the right side ?

I would actually like to see the Image pane on the bottom left AND the properties pane (with tag info) along the entire right border ...

Also, can we get a little less of an indent on the sub-folders in the Media Library pane ... If there a lot of nested folders, it causes the user to have a very wide Media Library pan to be able to view them ... If you could decrease the indents by 1/2, I think that would give us much more landscape.

I found a bug.  Tried to delete an album, in mp3 format from the tree.  Right clicked on the album, selected delete and send to recycle bin, hit delete and I get a media core has encountered a problem and has to close message.

I also tried  remove from media library only and had the same result.  Below is my system information.
