JRiver Media Center 24 Won't Play Most DVD's

JRiver Media won't play most DVD's. DVD's that play just fine in VLC Media Player, for example.
Brand new DVD's right out of the package. Here's what happens:

< New disc detected in drive Read Play Rip >

Try selecting Play.
