JRemote not connecting
« on: July 21, 2018, 11:49:56 am »

I had an internet issue yesterday where suddenly neither my wife's nor my iPad could connect to my home network. We needed to get back in with our passwords, all  is working fine now except JRemote will not connect. It shows "not connected". I've rebooted several times but to no avail. Any thoughts on ow to reconnect?
Thank you!

I have a very similar issue. I don't know exactly, when it started, but iPad is connected to Wifi and everything works fine. Only JRemote does not find the JRiver server.

I tried to downgrade to an older JRiver version, with no success.
I did a fresh install of JRemote, nop.
I reset the iPad, and restore from iCloud, no success.
I reset the iPad and only installed JRemote, no success.

Today I had same issue with my iPhone.

What always helps, disable and re enable the Wifi of the iPad. Then it works for a short amount of time.
But don't get me wrong, all other apps always work and Wifi is OK always.

To me it looks like, JRemote does not like the latest iOS version, to which reason ever.
My wife has not installed the update on her iPad, she has no issues so far.

At the moment it is annoying.

Any suggestion?

What version of MC are you using? And what OS?

Do you believe it's related to an update of iOS?

Win7x64 (no updates and no software installed since months) with MC24-64 in the latest version (via update). I tried earlier MC24 then, where I know, they worked in the past months.
iPhone with newest iOS 11.4.1 same issue.

As written, the second iPad iOS 11.4 works flawless.
Connection from my MACbook with MC24 installed works perfect too.

I would say, it is definitely related to the new iOS update.

You might want to update Win7.  It probably won't solve the problem, but security is important.

MC24 but which build?  Have you tried the latest?

Why do you think it's iOS?

MC 24.0.41 64 bit
Why, the not updated iPad works always.

24.0.45 is here:

Did the problem only begin when you updated iOS?

24.0.41 seems to be the most recent "stable version".
I would update to 24.0.45 for sure, if it where flagged as stable.
The update button in JRiver does not offer a newer version for now.

To your question: I would say so. I do not write a logfile, whenever an issue cames up.  ;) Nor do I check all apps after an iOS update.
I say, the iOS update is the trigger for the problem.
(Sorry, now I write it the third time. Is it better, when I write it more then once?)

Maybe it is not of an interest for you: We use an app for our Daikin air-condition. The app does not always find our two devices, since the iOS is updated. With the old iOS on the third iPad it works always. The identical behavior than JRemote.
The solution for now is Wifi off/on or Flightmode on/off. Then JRemote and Daikin Controller find their "servers" again.

If you're certain you know what the problem is, then I can't help you.  So far, I don't see the evidence.

Read this:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Updates

Please report the problem to Apple.

Jim, I just updated to iOS 11.4.1 and now JRemote has intermittent wifi connectivity.   One has to toggle wifi on/off to get it to reconnect to the MC server (MC24 24.0.47).   No other apps on the iPhone seem affected by the wifi issue.   Interestingly, connecting via the Gizmo interface on the iPhone seems to work normally but, of course, that is not as good as the JRemote interface which is my primary way of using JRiver MC.   Surely, there must be something you can fix on your end.

FYI:  I just installed the iOS 12 public beta 9 and the wifi connectivity problem is gone.

If this is the same problem i had, i have a quick solution-

this is what my server connection request told me (addresses blocked out by me to ***** for my own security)

Finding computer addresses associated with access key *******

Response received

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Response Status="OK">
<keyid>********</keyid>
<ip>**************.ca.comcast.net</ip>
<port>52199</port>
<localiplist>*******0.3</localiplist>
<macaddresslist>f***************/macaddresslist>
</Response>

Found 2 addresses

Connecting to IP: *********Port: 52199

Timed out

Connecting to IP: c***********.net Port: 52199

Timed out

problem is that Windows defender does not recognize mc24 and really hates to tell you so. I suspect that multiple windows (or maybe Apple) OS upgrades have caused the problem, but am not certain. But the cure worked quickly.

Go into the settings window. Choose windows security. On the left, choose troubleshoot. In the troubleshooter, choose internet connections. Run the troubleshooter. Answer the questions that lead to connecting an outside computer. This will detect the problem with the system and finally begrudgingly let you know that windows defender is being a d**k and give you the option of correcting. Take it. Then it will happily tell you the problem is corrected. It specifically tells you that this is for MC24.

Reconnect using your access key. Oh yeah. Make sure MC24 is running when you do this. The remote needs something to connect to.

Hope this helps and works for you, too.
