OT -good  newspaper in english
« on: June 03, 2003, 11:05:31 am »

I would like to find  a online US or UK or from any 'anglos' country newpaper- free ,registered not a problem- who speaks about the situation here - Israel and Palestine- in a neutral and enlighted way.

I just do not need any Laurence Of Arabie point of view, and ,even less a Zion is beautifull one.

The only languages i understand are hebrew ,french and english.
News in hebrew  are ,like me ,without any distance giving the right look.
News in frenchs are so anti- Israel -when no antisemitic- that they are of no use.

So ,i'am left with the english language
And you to give me some links

Look like there is a light somewhere... and one day one light WOULD have to be the good one....

Maybe now , who knows ?
I would like very much.
Not for me ,i  get used to anything.
I do not mind to be kill or to kill
But
For my people of cause.
And  maybe even more for the palestinian people

Congratulations on your liberated non-partisan, non-political point of view.

How refreshing.

Hope you find what your are looking for.

Maybe the Sunday New York Times?

I hear there is a pretty good newspaper in San Francisco, California but I can not remember the name.

Well, of course nothing is ever completely neutral, but the paper I buy every day in the UK is the Guardian. Its a mainstream leftwing-leaning paper. We also have The Independent, which of course is marketed as being independent, politically.

Of course all UK papers are politically biased in some way, and most are owned by large international media conglomerates. I think you will find that the above, plus the other two main broadsheet (=serious) papers - the famous London Times (rightwing-ish) and the Telegraph (right wing) will report facts accurately, but of course you get their spin on things in the comment sections. Id certainly be interested in your views as to how their reporting compares with your experiences 'on the ground'.

Moving from newspapers there is of course the BBC which if nothing else is a fantastically comprehensive website. As a 'non-commercial' public organisation funded in law through television licence fees (note no ads on the site) it is supposed to be neutral. It has quite nice streaming clips of its News 24 CNN-style channel in its 'broadband' section. It is periodically accused of bias by politicians in the UK from all parts of the political spectrum, so I guess thats a sign it is doing something right.

Im afraid I cant comment in detail about coverage of your location, but I hope this helps.

You must be joking here.  You exalt non-political points of view, and then recommend the New York Times?

English is not my native tongue as well. But I had to translate this joke (?) ...
OK - here is something to confirm everyones prejudice...(Hello trussing  :-* )

Last year, for preparation of an UN summit conference, there was
an opinion poll all over the world. The only question was:
"Please give your honest opinion about solutions for the lack
of food in the rest of the world!"
The poll was quite a flop.
In some African states they didn't know the meaning of "food".
In Eastern Europe they didn't know the meaning of "honest".
In Western Europe they didn't know the meaning of "lack".
In China they didn't know the meaning of "opinion".
In the Middle East they didn't know the meaning of "solutions".
In South America they didn't know the meaning of "please".
And in the USA they didn't know the meaning of "rest of the world".

In the U.S. the Washington Post (at washingtonpost.com) is increasingly becoming the "Paper of Record."  It is generally considered mildly liberal but mostly fair.  The website is free and you don't have to register - although it may ask a few generic demographic questions the first time you try to read an article.

I really like the compilation effect of Google news..

However for news services I find the BBC news site and the above mentioned Guardian very much to my tastes.

Probably as I am a Brit with left leaning tendancies (though not fiscal policy) I find the Guardian reporting to be excellent... Of course it all depends on preception...

Never trust your newsfeed...

Mmh, that's hard ... It's something like the speech in comics ... a compound of "crumple", "noise" and "speed"  ;)

Doctor - Good morning, what seems to be the problem
Patient- I seem to have an excessive build up of wind
Doctor - Ah, sounds like a slight touch of knickelfarz
Patient- Is it serious?
Doctor - No, just a temporary problem
Patient- What can I do about it?
Doctor - Just do as my wife does - blame the dog

You got me - the (k)nick is a knack to diminish the impressing substance of my windy postings - seems to work  ;D  ;D  ;D
It's not about knitting special knickers to hide knolls in knickerbockers where knaves put their knock-kneed legs in ...
