Media Center exits/crashes silently after a few hours
« on: August 18, 2018, 10:31:04 am »

After upgrading from 22 to version 24.0.45, I'm having an issue where Media Center will silently exit/crash at night when I'm not using it, around 4am every night. I've tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit binaries and the same issue occurs. The Windows Event Viewer just shows:

Nothing. I take back the part about 4am. It's just to give an idea that it mostly happens in the middle of the night after it's been idle for some time. I scanned the logs and it has happened at various times from 11pm to 7am.

Files are on an attached USB hard drive. Audio output via Wasapi to USB DAC.

Pretty much vanilla Windows 10 Pro on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with latest updates. Nothing installed or changed, the tablet is only used to run Media Center. Fairly vanilla Media Center installation, always in Theater View.

Are you using TV?  It may be checking for an EPG and Windows Defender may be blocking it.

Does it happen if you're not in Theater View.

A video drive problem?

This might be relevant-
I had the same issue, and installing KB4345459 on both a Windows 7 & Windows 10 machine seemed to help the issue (Thanks tzr).  I don't want to use the word Fixed because I just made this change, and I will need to give the machines a while to make sure they have stopped hanging.  I hope that helps.
