No more audio out [Solved]
« on: August 30, 2018, 02:54:49 pm »

Hello,

I am on MC 23.0.104

My audio is not working anymore.

I tried to change the audio device and nothing.

Here is what I tried so far (the basics):

- My cd player works fine thus the amplifier and the speaker works fine.
- I disconnected all USB cables and connected back.
- I restarted the pc a few times
- I tried VLC player, Windows Media Player, music works fine on both.
- I On/Off everything twice.

My set up is a desktop with MC23 USB out to Arcam rDac to integrated. JRemote on iPad. Both MC23 and JRemote are showing the song playing yet no sound still...

I don't really know what else to look for.

As an aside, last thing I played yesterday was a .dsf file (DSD). I rarely listen to DSD and my DAC is not DSD capable but MC23 DSP DSD to FLAC and It always played fine. Played fine yesterday as well. I tried a .dsf file today again, it doesn't play either.

It probably is just a setting that I have to change but at this point I don't know which one... I tried everything I thought about.

Help please!

 :)

Thank you!

Or lowered the volume in MC all the way down?

The volume is at 100%... but volume never had an effect anyway on the sound.

I tried Arcam Kernel, no sound. I tried Arcam Direct Sound, no sound. I came back to the original Arcam WASAPI, still no sound...

The mystery continue...

If you go to tools>options audio what are the settings for volume - a screenshot would be useful.

Set the volume to internal volume. Right click on the little audio icon in the task bar (right hand side of the screen What does it say?

NVIDIA High Definition Audio (as always)... Just to be clear, I never use MC volume as it is bypassed (I think?) and only work with my DAC. I don't get any other sound other than audio (music) usually from MC. All other sound goes through my screen (hence NVIDIA)...

Do I make sense here?

Thanks!

Looks like you are sending the sound to your screen and not to the Arcam. Select the arcam drver in the audio icon in the task bar.

No because I would have heard the MC music on my screen speakers at least, which I didn't... Now, no more sound at all... LOL... No music, no windows sound, no VLC sound, nada...

The sound with other applications might be working because they are not using WASAPI or exclusive mode.

Try this. I have found it to be a solution for many of the audio problems with WASAPI.
Go to Task Manager (ctrl-shift-esc).
Hit the Services tab.
Look for Audiosrv
Right click on it and select restart

Wait a few seconds. Try to play something in MC.
If that fails too, restart after all of this and try to play something again.

I did It and... nothing! A new icon appeared (well, first time I see it anyway) Xear Audio Center after I did all this though...

The good news is all Windows sounds are back as well as VLC Player and everything else as NVIDIA High Definition Audio in Windows 10.

The bad news is MC still has no audio ... Back to square one...

I only use JRiver for audio thus why all other windows audio are not welcome and it is set as WASAPI. I use VLC player for everything else.

What do I do now? Desinstall MC and install it all over again?

Thank you!

Use Windows Control Panel > Sounds to test whether you can get any sound from Windows.

Try the wiki topic on Audio Setup.  You may get some ideas from it.

1 Check Player>Volume  Mute is not selected.
2 Windows settings> System>Sound.  Open device properties click the device tab advanced. Ensure that nothing is checked in the Exclusive Mode settings.

The saga is over... My nick is very well chosen, I am indeed dumb as a stick!

After spending another afternoon trying all sorts of things, desinstalling MC and restarting the desktop more time that I care to admit... turns out the problem was the cheap external AC/DC adapter (power supply?) from my Arcam rDac...!

It's the second time in 8 years that I have to change it but the last time at least there was no more lights which was a clear indication the power was the problem. This time around all lights and inputs were working and switching hence why I took me so long to figure it out...

Long story short, the problem wasn't MC after all. Dummy me indeed!

Thanks to all for the help!

But I thought VLC and other software played fine. Were they not connected to your DAC too?

English is not my first language so I probably explained myself poorly and I am sorry for that...

I use JRemote/JRiver as my music server/player only. Just for audio (audio = music in this case). Thus why I never use the internal volume control of MC because It is bypassed to my DAC/Integrated so I get music only and not all the different Windows sounds and the volume is controlled by my integrated and not MC.

For everything else, movies, apps, programs, etc, I use my desktop/TV combination thus the NVIDIA High Definition Audio set on Windows 10. That's why VLC worked fine as it is set on the Windows audio side.

So the Arcam output is used exclusively for MC23. The rest is NVIDIA. That's why I knew the MC volume never had an effect on my Arcam and muting it or not didn't matter.

I hope this is clearer.
