PC freezes when playing files in MC from QNAP NAS [Solved]
« on: August 27, 2018, 02:00:17 am »

It`s the MC-24 64-bit demo version on Win7. Imported the about 40000 tracks from the QNAP NAS with auto import, took a while, but the tracks and artwork showed up in the library. When I selected a track for playback it says "File not found" on the status bar at the bottom of the JRiver-window. If I tried to play the track the PC froze, and had to be restarted with the power button. The same happened with all tracks that I tried. I play through a RME Multiface external audio interface. I`m using the JRiver WDM-driver, and the RME ASIO-driver.

Then I disabled the Trend anti virus, and now I was able to play the tracks, but the PC still froze after a while, usually within a minute or so.

I made a new library with tracks from a folder on the local PC. Everything seems to work as expected, no PC-freeze so far.

I have not been able to find anything specific on problems regarding JRiver and QNAP NAS?

Your antivirus is causing the problem.  You can try to configure it correctly.

But the PC froze, even if the anti virus was disabled?

Disabling it may not be enough.  Uninstall to be certain.  Or fix it.

Uninstalled Trend, and played a couple of tracks, skipped forward, backwards etc, and everything was fine. Then I double clicked on a track from a different album, and the PC froze again ? I didn`t have time to check if this was repeatable, will try later.

You need to reboot after uninstalling.

You could also try re-installing MC.  No need to uninstall.

Are you playing from within MC?  Or using Explorer?

I did reboot.
Any point in installing the 32 bit version of MC instead?
Yes, I was playing from within MC.

Probably not.  Did you re-install MC?

Do local files have the same problem?  If not, there may be a QNAP problem.

No, not so far

Have not seen the freeze-problem with local files, but didn`t test for very long. Could try making a library from files on a Zyxel NAS that I have, to check if the QNAP is the problem.

It freezes even with local files. Could it be driver related?

Seems that the PC doesn`t freeze when I select the RME Direct Sound  as the output device. Also
tried WASAPI and Kernel Streaming, but that didn`t help. Have now replaced the  RME Multiface with a RME Fireface 800 interface. The Fireface 800 use Firewire connection to the PC, while the Multiface used a special PCMCIA-card. Have now playd about 30 minutes with ASIO-driver without any trouble. I cross my fingers..

Also fine with the RME UFX. Tried the old RME Multiface again  today. This time playing music from Youtube. Playing through  JRiver WDM-driver as before. Played for hours, no freeze! Confirmed again that the PC freezees when playing files from within JRiver with this interface.
