File convert problems ape -> mp3 (lost tags)
« on: May 29, 2003, 10:10:38 pm »

I have a bunch of APE files that when I convert them I, the tags get lost. In addition to the tags getting lost a file that has the same name as the file being converted with an extra ".XXXXXX" is left behind. An example of this is the first song off of pink floyd dark side of the moon. This is repeatable. Every time I convert the file I get the same results. Other songs in the same CD that was ripped at the same time work file. Let me know if you want a file. Here are the file details.

Are the original files read only?

I am not sure the question  is relavent in that I am using the option to create the new file in a new directory (leaving the original file alone) and the destination directory is not read only and does not have a file by the same name. That said, the original is not read only.

Extra information that may not be clear. The convert seems to create a correct file with the exception of the fact the tags are missing. The file that ends in .XXXXXX has a length of 0.

Hi.

Old problem. Workaround: Be sure to uncheck (in "Converter Settings"): "Update database" and "Send original file to the Recycle Bin". Do these operations manually after the conversion is completed.

I do not have either of those checked as I am not replacing my files, I am creating a new set. I do have it delete the wave file automatically as not doign that I would run out of disk space quckly...

Well, o.k. - I also see tags being lost occasionally when the named options are unchecked, but much more seldomly, only one of about 20 - 50 compared to 20 - 40% of the files if they are checked. I don't know why, but from an earlier thread I understood that this may happen if the retagging collides with another task involving the files.
