Smartlist with a specific first and last track
« on: October 18, 2018, 07:56:42 am »

I'm a novice at the database code but I have done quite a bit of searching and tinkering for this answer and come up empty.

I'd like to build a playlist of 10 songs with a specific track at the beginning and end.  The example I'm thinking about is a Dance! playlist that goes like this:

1. The Jacksons:  Blame It On the Boogie
8 random dance related songs
10.  George Michael:  Careless Whisper

I have a 10 random dance song smartlist created from a regular playlist of over 150 dance songs.  I just don't know if there is a way to set something specific for track 1 and 10.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

yes, start a new playlist with a track and then end with a track...now how hard was that!

What's the code for that?  I can certainly make a 2 song playlist with the 2 mentioned songs, but how do I get 8 random songs in the middle?

Easy- Just combine 3 lists :)
#1 contains the first track.
#2 contains 8 random songs.
#3 contains the last track.

I've tried every way I can think of to do that.

I had 2 playlists with each of the sing songs and a smartlist with 8 random songs.  If I make a new smartlist and the first rule is playlist is any "first song" the first song shows up, when I add a second rule playlist is any "8 random songs" the playlist shows no songs selected because the criteria is invalid, there are no songs that satisfy both rules.

I can't make a regular playlist and drop the random playlist into it, it just saves the current 8 random songs, it doesn't randomize each time like a true smartlist.

Maybe a playlist group?  It's a playlist of playlists.

A playlist group was a brilliant idea by Jim but it wasn't actually working!

Next build will change that:
Changed: When viewing a playlist group, the files will be ordered according to the child playlists (instead of all lumped together).  Just set the view to have no sorting and it will show the playlist order.

Thanks :)

Thanks all, I was just about to reply saying that Playlist Group was working, sort of.  It got me a list of 10 songs, but the 2 special selections were randomly placed.  It appears that a fix is in the works for this, so I should be all set.

Blame it on the boogie, 30 minutes of dance tunes, finished with "I'm never gonna dance again..."  My kids will love it when I crank it up, turn on the disco lights and and turn up the bass.

Thanks again.  Great community here, happy to support the software because of it.

This is the great stuff about a small, nimble company. I'm gonna have to create a playlist group just to take advantage of this!

Thanks, guys.
