Why the comment?
« on: May 28, 2003, 09:16:13 am »

I know this has been up before but I thought it was sorted. That is, the long + Media Jukebox: blah blah blah string that lives in all my files' ID3 ver 2 comments.

1. why is it there?
2. if I delete it, will it stay deleted?
3. as I don't see it in properties, does that mean I'm only seeing the ver 1 comment?

Cheers.

what is happening is your viewing id3v2 tags in another tagger program correct?

well it seems MC9 is using more than one comment tag, and in all other programs what shows up is "Media Jukebox" because that was the tool that wrote that tag and J river saved the tool name to one of the comments.

i do feel this is a big problem because now all mp3s created with MC9 are not compatable with other tagers.

now dr tag allows for you to see more than one comment field.

i think the problem is MC9 is not writing the standard "Comment" first.

and your not the first person to make this "Comment"

I run 9.0.174, and have none of the described problems. I've since long used several taggers (for different features and purposes), and after letting the MC9 tagger loose on quite a few of my files, the "old" tools still work. But yes, to the version 2 comments are added MC9-specific comments, but as far as I can assess, they only appear after the first comment. This means all my programs that are only-first-comment-of-id3v2-aware still get my comments (added with MC9) first.

I rely quite heavily on use of comments for some metadata, and would be completely lost if MC9 made a mess of the first comment field, which it -- as it appears to me -- does not.

I also don't have this problem now, but did on earlyer versions of MC9

maybe all he needs to do is re-save all his tags.
