Sync with Google Pixel 3
« on: December 07, 2018, 03:51:31 pm »

When I plug my Google Pixel 3 into the USB port of my computer (Windows 10), JRiver does not recognize the device (windows does recognize the device).  Has anyone else had this issue...and how do I fix this?   BTW, I do not see the option for MTP file transfer in the USB preferences on the phone (that's what I needed to choose for my my old Google Pixel).  I've reached out to Google support and the assistance has been less than stellar.

What are the choices that the phone gives you for USB?

When I plug the Pixel 3 into the computer I get the normal USB options on the screen. This is with Windows 7. Try restarting maybe?

The choices are "File Transfer", "USB Tethering", "MIDI", "PTP", and "No Data Transfer".

I've tried restarting the computer and restarting MC.  I've tried to add device under "Handheld" in the options section.  MC just doesn't recognize that I have a device plugged in.  I'm still waiting for a response from Google support about the MTP setting.  I think that's why MC can't see the device.

You might do a search of Microsoft to see if Win10 has had similar problems.  Or a wider search for Pixel 3 problems.

Did you try File Transfer?

File transfer allows me to physically transfer files to and from the PC and phone with the file folders.  But it does not allow access to MC.

I think it should.

Just to test it, I opened Windows Media Player and plugged my phone in the USB port.  Windows Media Player recognized the device immediately.  Still nothing on MC though.

Did you try "Re-detect Handhelds" in MC?

For troubleshooting purposes, I plugged my Pixel 3 into my old computer and MC recognized the device immediately.  The old computer is MC 21 with a Windows 7 OS.  The new computer is MC 24 with a Windows 10 Home OS.  However, Windows (and Windows Media Player) recognizes the Pixel on the new computer...MC 24 does not.

Could easily be a Win10 thing.  There have been a lot of problems recently with Win10.  Did you try searching Microsoft?

Yes.  The instructions were to update the driver for the portable devices.  When I clicked on that, it said that I had the most up to date driver.  Plus, I would think that Windows Media Wouldn't recognize the device then.

Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of MC24? If you're using the 64-bit version, you might try the 32-bit version and see if it works then. Or vice versa if that's the case (and your OS is 64-bit).

To be honest, I am not certain which one I'm using.  How would I be able to tell?  And how would I try the other one?

I right clicked on the MC icon and clicked "Troubleshoot Compatibility".  The message that came up was that MC was installed for Windows 8 and that I needed to reinstall MC.  I don't know how that even happened.  If I reinstall MC, will I lose all of the saved playlists?

Decided to roll the dice and download the 64 bit version from the JRiver site.  All playlists saved on PC!  Plugged phone in and MC recognizes the device!  Thanks for the assist!
