I've tried installing on two different clean installations of windows 10, one home and one pro. I've read the defender thread religiously and followed through all the steps and still Mediacenter crashes on me after about 20 seconds. Any other ideas?

Have you tried turning off auto-import?

Are you running another antivirus or similar?

I tried installing an anti-virus to force defender to quit and that didn't work so I uninstalled it. I haven't tried turning off auto-import but I'll try. I may have to uninstall ver 24 to get the opportunity. 23 seems to be working. I know the problem has to be on my end but I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure it out

LOL. I'm an idiot. It looks like I've been downloading the 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit one. It appears to be importing media now and analyzing the audio properly. My apologies

So I think it is involving the import function somehow. Even though I've excluded all my media folders from defender I'm adding them to MC one at a time and each time I add one, it crashes

Please read the wiki topic on logging.

Once you have a log file, look at the bottom of the "previous log".  You should see "crashing".

That's all I can see relating to crashing. Is there a reason that MC23 would work and MC24 wouldn't?

Make sure you're using 24.0.71 as there was an issue with MP4 files crashing. See if it fixes it for you too: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,118668.0.html
