Need help with Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones
« on: December 24, 2018, 03:54:39 am »

I just bought WH-1000XM3 headphones, which are able to control playback via touch sensor (via Bluetooth AVRCP protocol).

https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wh1000xm3/v1/en/contents/TP0001703116.html

Everything works fine if I play music from iPhone.

But when playing music from PC (JRiver MediaCenter), only volume up/down works OK, the other gestures (play/pause, next/previous, ...) not.

(When looking into BT hardware card, there's WH-1000XM3 Avrcp transport adapter listed as working fine.)

Any idea what to adjust or set, in order to control the JRiver playback from the headphones?

The controls don't work with my Bose QC35-II headphones either.

I had a chance to look into this more in-depth today.
Bluetooth controls do work in Microsoft's own apps, but do not work in any other non-UWP applications.

From reading up on this, it seems that a bug was introduced in Windows 10 1803 that prevented Bluetooth controls working in Win32 apps.
1709 and earlier should apparently work. I updated my system to 1809, and that also fixed the problem.
Play/pause and next/prev controls are both working in Media Center as expected.

Tested with Bose QC35-II and Sony WH-1000XM3.
