install
« on: January 04, 2019, 06:28:27 pm »

I downloaded a NEW VERSION to try out in 64 bit. HOWEVER, it crashed my computer and now I cannot install it at all! I've deleted all files from hd and still nothing!

It will NOT install no matter what I do.

What is this NEW VERSION - where did you download it from? Is your operating system 64 bit?

EDIT: Do you have any antivirus software on your laptop?

If you have windows defender running on your machine do what is recommended here first
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114101.0.html

Then go to the link I provided previously and download the correct version of jriver for your machine. Then install it.

Something on your machine is interfering bigtime with jriver install, assuming you aren't trying to install a version designed for a different operating system.

Try to be pleasant next time it isn't helpful to rant.

EDIT: I thought you had left Swiv3d. Well, my little addition. Back to you.  ;)

Media Center, literally, cannot crash your PC. Only a failed driver can crash your PC.

So the most likely culprit is the Anti-virus you are using. Disable it, or uninstall it for testing (just to test the installation). If you downloaded MC from the JRiver site, as you say, it doesn't have any virus', adware, malware, bloatware, or anything liek that. It is a full version of MC that is just time limited.

If you are about to say "I don't have any Antivirus installed, well that would be bad, but if you are using Windows 10 64bit then you definitely do. It is called Windows Defender. But Defender doesn't typically causes crashes. Sometimes it does try to block MC though. In which case you need to Tame Windows Defender.

So, if it isn't your Antivirus, then the other most likely causes are Graphics, Audio, and Motherboard drivers. Update them all to the latest for your laptop, unless you know there are issues with the latest.

If a System Restore didn't get rid of the failed MC installation, you have a lot more problems than MC. For goodness sake don't wipe and reinstall Windows for such a simple issue! Fix the problem.

Lot's of people have converted from iTunes to Media Center. There is a learning curve, some new concepts, but it isn't hard. Get on it!

Bottom line: It isn't a Media Center problem. Fix your PC.

Here's what happened. I downloaded the LATEST version. I installed it. After it installed, it went to open up, after install and completely locked the computer up! This is a brand new laptop(only 3 weeks old) and I installed a SSD on it myself and did a complete FRESH install of win 10 x64. AFTER the program opened and froze for 5 or so minutes, I did a reboot and figured I'll uninstall, reboot and re-install. whenever I re-install it says fatal error and to install the latest driver which I AM using. Same EXACT VERSION that you posted in the link. That is where I ORIGINALLY got it from. However, it is not in my programs or programs x86 files but it IS still in my add/remove apps in settings(weird) and will not remove itself.

Yeah, it's likely antivirus related, I'd say. If it isn't, it sounds like you've got major problems with that new PC.

Antivirus is a good guess.  Uninstall it.

I've cleaned up your posts above.  Please try to keep a more neutral tone and we'll find out what the problem is.
