Apple Music Integration
« on: February 02, 2019, 01:18:12 pm »

Hi all,

I've searched the forum to see if this topic has been raised before, but couldn't find anything, so I apologise if this has been raised before elsewhere.

I wonder if there are any plans to integrate Apple Music access into MC25? It would be great if I could finally sever ties with iTunes and have all my music playback options in one place. There are a couple of browser based Apple Music alternative players (Play Apple Music and Musish for example) and I have tried adding these as links within MC24 but when I try to log in, the Apple ID login pop up is rendered blank.

Thanks in advance for any information or tips.

Regards,

Rob.

Apple keeps everything for themselves only.  They don't allow access to Apple Music.

I figured that might be the case, however the two links in my original post are 3rd party services able to access Apple Music and use Apple’s own login and verification services to enable Apple Music subscribers to access all their content outside of iTunes. So it doesn’t appear as closed down as we might think.

The problem is if JRiver used/did something like that, Apple probably wouldn't like it and would threaten legal action. Apple's the type of company that would do such a thing, especially to a US-based company like JRiver.

Surprisingly, it appears that Apple has an official API to access Apple Music and integrate it into applications, including a full JS library to set this up in any web app. They require signing up for a developer key, so they might attach some license to that, but it appears to be more then what any streaming service offers.

Unfortunately, I believe they still use DRM, so that may be a bit problematic to use.

Apple has a long history of blocking access.  A decade ago, we spent more than $100,000 on iPod support and had a nice solution, but Apple changed their approach and broke our support.

Netflix did something similar.

We've wasted smaller amounts of money on Tidal and QNAP.

We just can't afford to spend development time or money on supporting restricted access.

Hi

yes I understand that would be too crucial.

Waht is possible to have an Input Selector to route all Mac-Sound (and Windows-Sound) through JRiver, to benefit form DAC support, DPS options, like convolver etc. of JRiver.

On Windows that works more or less (File/Open Live).

Make that easy would solve any integration of such streaming services like apple, spotify, Napster, Deezer, Qobuz.... etc.

Hello,

Is the mentioned routing of all sounds through the JRiver just a proposal/idea, or is it already possible (I am talking about Mac OS)?

Only possible on Windows via the WDM driver.
